Training objectives

The course aims to give the student knowledge of anatomy, in an overall view that includes organs and apparatuses and loco-regional relationships. The course makes use of different approaches (topographical and regional) for the study of morpho-functional relationships related to specific advancements in the field of biomedical sciences.
In particular, the students will learn for:
Knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will:
- describe the contents related to the regions of pelvis and perineum and microscopic anatomy of body systems, with links to descriptive and systematic (shape, position, relationships), topographic (loco-regional) and clinical anatomy;
- know and correlate the structural organization of human organs with their main functional activities.
Applying knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course students will have developed the ability to:
- recognize and analyze the organ/system within the region in which it is located;
- demonstrate the ability of observation and identification of the organs by the common techniques of microscopic observation;
- identify the anatomical basis that led to the disease described in the clinical cases.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the fundamentals of cytology, biology, histology and embryology.

Course programme

Human Anatomy II
Pelvis and Perineum - Bony pelvis. Cavity and pelvic viscera. Muscles of the pelvic floor and walls. Male and female internal genitalia. Rectum and anal canal. Pelvic peritoneum. Pelvic fascia. Perineum. Male and female external genitalia. The course also includes the study of the microscopic structure of human organs.
Athropology
Points of reference and measures: basic list; selection; sequence; storage.
Anthropological variability (origin and tendency in current human populations). Stature, Body Weight, BMI. Morpho-metric characters of the different body regions. Body composition. Somatotype. Main physiometric parameters.

Didactic methods

The course provides 48 teaching hours. Lectures, discussion of simple clinical cases and practical exercises.

Learning assessment procedures

The learning verification will be carried out by a written exam, without the use of notes, books or personal multimedia support, in the presence of the teachers. The test will be formulated with multiple-choice questions (5 multiple-choice) relating to all the topics covered in class. No penalty for wrong answers or not given.
The exam could include the identification of microscopic anatomy images.
The questions will be prepared in order to verify the anatomical and anthropological knowledge acquired by the student from a systematic and topographical point of view, and with the use of images.
A minimum score of 18 out of 30 will be required to pass the exam.
