What to expect

Our Chairholder Prof. Patrizio Bianchi and speakers will reflect on the main themes and methodologies used in our MAiDAs (Marginal Areas in Developed Areas) project, highlighting how theatre, participatory direction, and music helped young people and participants articulate challenges and imagine sustainable futures. We will also present our framework for 2026 and open a space for active collaboration, inviting you to contribute ideas and partnerships for the year ahead.

The event will conclude with a concert by the John Lennon Youth Band of the C.G. Andreoli Foundation of Mirandola, conducted by Maestros Gaetano Dolce and Stefano Bergamini.

Our Chair and our work

Established at the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Ferrara in 2020 by Prof. Patrizio Bianchi and currently coordinated by Prof. Valentina Mini, our UNESCO Chair promotes an integrated system of research, training, and knowledge sharing in the fields of development economics, political sciences, and education. We focus on transdisciplinary collaboration to address global educational challenges and promote equitable growth.

Our 2025 journey

Throughout 2025, our "Summer School Itinerante" explored the theme "Inside Marginal Areas in Developed Areas: Understanding, Stimulating, and Practicing Change." We traveled to Fabriano (Marche), Soverato (Calabria), and Udine (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) to examine processes of marginalization and revitalization through a series of case studies and empirical observations from North to South, passing through the Center of the country.

Our approach went beyond standardized development models. We connected innovative and artistic practices with research, using participatory methods such as theatre, shared direction, and music to engage local communities, especially young people, in imagining sustainable futures for their territories.

Next steps

Save the date! We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this special occasion together. The detailed program will be available soon.
