Italian L2 courses for foreign students (Italiano L2)
The Linguistic Centre of the University of Ferrara offers Italian courses in preparation for university classes, both in the first and second semester (September - November / January - June).
Who can have access to the courses
- students taking part to university exchange programs
- foreign students enrolled in degree programs, specialization courses and PhD programs.
- students of the Conservatorio G. Frescobaldi
- foreign guests of the University of Ferrara
Duration and structure of the courses
For the Second Semester 2025/2026, courses at the A1, A2, and B1 levels are planned.
- Pre-registration and Written Entrance Test: From January 7th to February 28th (subject to availability).
- Oral Entrance Test (Lesson 1): The week of March 2nd to 6th.
- Course Dates: From early March to early May.
Mode: Blended (Online lessons via Google Meet and in-person lessons at the Language Centre in Via Scienze 41b).
Enrollment: Preliminary Test and Course Fee
To enroll in the Italian language courses, follow these steps:
- Fill out the online pre-registration form at this link
Complete the form within the deadline specified in the "Duration and structure of the courses" section. - Take the written placement test
The link to the test is automatically sent after registration. Complete the test as soon as possible because admission follows this date. Warning: Anyone who does not complete the written placement test by the deadline will be excluded from the courses, and the registration will be cancelled. - Receive course confirmation and schedule; pay to confirm participation
Wait for the secretary office email with your course schedule and then pay the fee (details are in the section below: "Course Fee"). If you do not pay by the deadline, you will lose your spot. Please note: no refunds will be issued in case of withdrawal. - Take the oral placement test (Class 1) and start the course
The oral placement test takes place during the first lesson. It is needed to confirm your level and place you in a suitable group with a maximum of 25 participants.
Course Fees
- Exchange program students – first course: €60.00
- Exchange program students – additional courses: €130.00
- International students (enrolled in degree, specialization, or PhD programs, or at the “G. Frescobaldi” Conservatory) – first course: €80.00
- International students (enrolled in degree, specialization, or PhD programs, or at the “G. Frescobaldi” Conservatory) – additional courses: €130.00
- Students exempt from tuition fees: €60.00
Payment instructions:
Payments must be made through the Payments Portal at this link after receiving confirmation of admission from our offices.
Note:
- International students without an Italian tax code (codice fiscale, CF) must check the “Anonymous” box when filling out the payment form.
- If your international card is not accepted, select the method "Mybank", that works with most international bank accounts.

Reminder: Registration fees are non-refundable in case of withdrawal.
Final Certificate
Upon completion of the course, certificates of attendance and achievement will be issued.

To receive the Certificate of Attendance, you must have attended at least 70% of the classes.

To receive the Certificate of Achievement (Profitto), you must have attended 70% of the classes AND passed the final written and oral exams.
The Certificate of Achievement entitles academic mobility students to 5 ECTS credits, provided these credits have been included in their Learning Agreement/Study Plan.
Students may take a second Italian language course. This second course will be certified (level and number of hours) but will not grant any further ECTS credits.
