ECSEL - Artemis

ARTEMIS-Industry Association represents (together with AENEAS and EPoSS) the private party in the public-private partnership (PPP) in the electronics industry called ECSEL Joint Undertaking (Electronics Components and Systems for European Leadership), where the public party is the European Commission;

ARTEMISI is set up as a non-profit association and brings together more than 200 public and private members working on research and innovation strategies within a wide range of sectors of the electronics industry;

ECSEL Joint Undertaking (ECSEL JU) has launched a funding programme within Horizon 2020, called ECSEL, through which it intends to invest up to 5 billion Euro throughout the 2014/2020 period (approximately 25% EU - 75% industry partners plus National Contributions);

Main aims pursued by ECSEL:

  • To contribute to the development of a strong and globally competitive electronic components and systems industry in the Union;
  • To ensure the availability of electronic components and systems in key markets, in response to multiple societal challenges and with the aim of keeping Europe at the forefront of technological development, bridging the gap between research and commercial development, enhancing innovation capabilities and stimulating economic and employment growth in the Union;
  • To harmonise Member States' strategies in order to attract private investment and contribute to sound public finances by avoiding unnecessary duplication and fragmentation of efforts and by facilitating the participation of those engaged in research and innovation;
  • To maintain and increase the manufacturing capacity for semi-conductors and intelligent systems in Europe, also to ensure leadership in terms of production and material processing;
  • To occupy a leading position in the design and engineering of systems, including embedded technologies;
  • To provide all interested operators access to a world-class infrastructure for the design and manufacture of electronic components, embedded and intelligent systems;
  • To create a dynamic ecosystem of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to consolidate existing clusters and to promote the creation of new clusters in new promising sectors.
