Pharmaceutics; design and production of advanced drug delivery systems: polymeric nano- and micro-systems; liposomes, micelles and microemulsions; dry coating.

Biomaterials and encapsulation technologies: conduits for nerve repair; multifunctional microcapsules for islets entrapment; microfibres and microbeads for mesenchymal stem cells embedding.

Lab-on-a-chip design and applications: virtual prototyping; microfluidic chips.

Research infrastructures:

The 2 research units namely: Biomaterial Laboratory and Bioencapsulation and Microfluidic Laboratory with a number of instruments and facilities for performing an effective research activity. The list of instruments includes: air-driven microencapsulators; automated vibrational microencapsulator; spray-drying; differential scanning calorimeter (DSC); light-scattering particle size analyser; stereo microscope with image analyzer and EDF; H-NMR and C-NMR spectrometers; optical microscopes; mass spettrometer; UV-NIR spectrophotometer; FT-IR spectrophotometer; HPLC Chromatographers; plate rheometer; freeze-dryer; microtube extrusors; homogenizers; laser granulometer.

Level of education: “Marie Curie Individual Fellowship” Action requirements.
