Training objectives

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES
Knowledge of the main respiratory diseases: from pathogenesis to diagnosis, therapy and clinical prognosis.
Knowledge and interpretation of the main lung function tests and arterial blood gases.
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM DISEASES
Knowledge of the main cardiovascular diseases, specifically focusing on the diagnostic and therapeutic process and the differential diagnosis with other diseases. At the end of the course students will be able to implement the main diagnostic and therapeutic pathways of cardiovascular diseases.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and general pathology and principles of pharmacology

Course programme

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES
Anathomy of respiratory system, respiratory fisiopathology, pulmonary lung function tests (Spirometry and Plethysmografy). Obstructive and restrictive pulmonary diseases, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, diffuse interstitial lung disease, paraneoplastic syndrome, pulmonary neoplasms, bronchiectasies, cystic fibrosis, pleural disorders, bronchial endoscopy, lung vascular disorders: pulmonary embolism, vasculitis, pulmonary hypertension.
Epidemiological, etiopathogenetic, therapeutic and prognostic implications related to sex / gender.
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Coronary artery disease, ischemic heat disease, coronary artery angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiac valvular disease, endocarditis, myocarditis, pericarditis, basic principles of arrhythmias, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, cardiomyopathies.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES: lectures and tutorials at the Department of Pneumology, pneumological surgeries of clinical diagnostics, functional and endoscopic (AOU of Ferrara)
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM DISEASES: lectures and tutorials at the Department of Cardiology (AOU of Ferrara)

Learning assessment procedures

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES
Oral exam. Are posed to the student, on average, 3 questions on the topics discussed during the lessons. Moreover, the student is asked to read and to comment a spirometry and an arterial blood gas analysis. The duration of the test is about 30 minutes. The test is intended to evaluate the preparation of the student on the topics discussed during the lessons and the ability to understand and comment the lung function tests and reach a diagnosis in order to evaluate the knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches learned during the lessons and the training. The ability to expose the topics will also be evaluated. The final outcome will depend also on the practice sessions.
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES
Oral exam. Are posed to the student, on average, 2 questions of which, at least, on the peculiarities addressed in the lessons. The duration of the test is about 20 minutes. The test is intended to evaluate the preparation of the student on the subject and the ability to link between the various topics of the course. Examination of knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches learned during the exercises.
The final mark is the arithmetical mean of the two marks.
