Training objectives

The integrated course of Hygiene and Medical Statistics includes the modules of General and Applied Hygiene and Medical Statistics.
The teaching aims to:
- learn and apply epidemiological methodology in order to analyse, understand and evaluate health and care problems at both the individual and community level;
- deal with regulatory, organizational and managerial issues relating to the provision of health care in Italy;
- identify and analyze the factors that influence health and promote interventions to protect it.
- acquire the ability to interpret the main statistical methodologies of multivariate analysis, for the identification of risk/protection factors, taking into account the stratification techniques (for example by sex/gender) and standardization
- deepen the skills of critical reading of the results of scientific articles, the identification of the main biases, and the basic concept of multivariate analysis techniques.

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

In terms of knowledge:
- distinguish the principles and issues related to disease prevention
- Interpret the results of the main multivariate, stratified and standardized statistical analyses.

In terms of skills:
- set up a basic intervention for the promotion and protection of health at the level of the individual and the community
- apply the techniques and the main limits of intermediate epidemiological methodologies and basic biostatistical methodologies.
- critically read the results of a scientific study of medium difficulty, and will be able to create a table of results according to international scientific standards.
- Set the basis for conducting a clinical study.
