Training objectives
- The course of History and Culture of Design aim to develop knowledge on the historical processes that, during the twentieth century, gave rise to the genesis and growth of the culture of design in the field of production of industrial artefacts, in Italy and in international places.
Wide attention will be dedicated to the protagonists, the most significant schools, the role played by industry, technological innovations and distribution.
The theories and methodologies underlying the conception of products and the relationship between design and society will be highlighted. Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of the history of the twentieth century
Course programme
- Il corso si articola in lezioni frontali ed esercitazioni.
Le lezioni frontali riguarderanno i seguenti temi:

_il rapporto tra il design e la tecnica
_la relazione tra design e avanguadie storiche (Bauhaus)
_il design in Europa e in Italia tra le due guerre
_il design in America
_il fenomeno del design organico tra Europa e America
_il design italiano degli anni '50 e '60
_i fenomeni del pop-radidical design
_i maestri del design italiano
_le ultime tendenze nel design contemporaneo
Le esercitazioni riguarderanno i metodi di ricerca e scrittura storico-critica attraverso la creazione di un numero zero di una rivista di design Didactic methods

Learning assessment procedures
- The exam evaluation may include an intermediate written test and a final interview, through which students will have to demonstrate that they have acquired a knowledge of topics and issues addressed in the classroom and in the reference texts indicated, to be able to historically place and contextualize artefacts and phenomena of design culture.
