Public speaking is far more than an innate talent reserved for a fortunate few; it is a practical skill that can be systematically trained, refined, and mastered. On 12 and 13 November 2026, the University of Ferrara invites students, staff, and members of the COLOURS Alliance community to take part in an intensive, two-day workshop led by public speaking expert, author, and theatre artist Massimo Malucelli, founder of WonderSchool.
Communication as a Trainable Skill
True communication extends well beyond the spoken word. It is a profound process of personal and professional growth that underpins every meaningful relationship and professional interaction. As Massimo Malucelli illustrates through a traditional teaching story:
“One day, a Master was explaining to his disciples how important words were. One student stood up and said: ‘Forgive me Master, but I don’t believe words are that important…’ The old sage turned to him and called him an insignificant creature who had no right to contradict him! The disciple took great offence and angrily demanded to know what right the Master had to insult him. The Master let him vent, smiled, and said: ‘Do you see now how important words are?'”
Combining classical rhetoric with contemporary theatrical techniques, this course helps participants unlock hidden confidence and develop versatile delivery methods. Whether you are preparing to defend a thesis, sit a key exam, tackle a job interview, lead a team, or pitch an innovative project to investors, mastering communication enables you to overcome self-doubt and captivate your audience.
A Practical, Hands-On Methodology
This workshop is designed to be interactive, practical, and highly engaging. Rather than listening to passive lectures, participants will actively train their abilities in a supportive environment.
- Non-Verbal Mastery: Harnessing body language, posture, eye contact, and the intentional use of silence.
- Speech Construction: Structuring clear, persuasive, and meaningful presentations tailored to your audience.
- Rehearsals & Feedback: Working in collaborative groups, carrying out research, rehearsing, and presenting in real time. Participants will receive constructive, tailored coaching during rehearsals and after their performances.
