Training objectives

Modulo: 67596 - MATEMATICA PER LA CHIMICA
------------------------------------------------------------
The course is divided in two modules, one focused on mathematics and the latter on informatics. The module of mathematics will provide students with basics of linear algebra. At the end of the course, the students will know: basics on set theory, group theory, vector spaces, and will be able to solve simple problems involving groups of symmetries and permutations and linear systems, to change basis of vector space, to find the matrix associated with a linear map, to perform operations with matrices (in particular, the inverse), and to diagonalize a square matrix. The module of informatics will cover the main topics on computer science and on how to use computers, and will provide notions about computer architectures, operating systems and algorithms. At the end of the course, the students will be able to use computer and tools to process data.

For mathematics elementary algebraic calculation and elements of analytic geometry of the plane are required. For informatics no prerequisities are required.

Vector spaces and subspaces (linear dependence and indepedence, bases and dimensions of vector spaces).Matrices (matrix operations, determinant and inverse of a matrix, rank of a matrix.). Linear systems. Diagonalization of matrices. Linear applications. Informatics: Basic concepts on informatics, terminology, computer, software and algorithms. Architecture of operating systems. Tools for data processing.
