Modulo: 008007 - MEDICINA LEGALE
------------------------------------------------------------
The integrated course of Legal and Occupational Medicine includes the modules of "Legal Medicine" of "Occupational Medicine" and "Occupational Psychology". The "Legal Medicine" module will deal with the topics of classical forensic medicine, the doctrinaire and legislative topics of interest to the medical doctor. The doctor's legal obligations, duties and main offenses of forensic interest will be focused. The issues of professional liability for biological damage, civil disability and social insurance will also be focused. The main topics of forensic pathology and toxicology will be discussed. The "Occupational Medicine" module aims to provide knowledge of the morbid processes dependent on the subject's profession and the harmful factors to which the profession exposes it, bearing in mind the possible different susceptibility linked to the gender. Furthermore, the Occupational Medicine module explains the legislative rules in the field of Occupational Medicine that must be carried out by every graduate in Medicine and Surgery. The "Work Psychology" module proposes the general framework of the condition of mental well-being in the workplace, work stress and burnout; work engagement and workaholism; working climate and mobbing; work commitment and job identification.

Knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will know:
- the legislation relating to forensic and occupational medicine;
-the legal and deontological duties of the physician;
-the principles of social security and occupational medicine;
- the causality in forensic and occupational medicine;
-the bases of occupational diseases, pathology and forensic toxicology;
-the main causes, symptoms and consequences of work-related stress, burnout, workaholism, mobbing


Applying knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will have developed the ability to:
- recognize the conditions requiring the legal obligations;
- prepare the required documentation in Legal and Occupational Medicine (e.g. certification of work accidents and occupational diseases, obligatory reports, medical records, etc.);
-respect the physician’s ethical duties;
- Reflect on the causes of phenomena such as work stress, burnout, workaholism, mobbing and identify possible contrast strategies.

The "Work Psychology" module will cover the following topics: motivation and commitment; performance; human errors in the workplace; work-related stress and burnout; workaholism; workplace aggression and mobbing.

Knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will know:
- the main constructs and theories of work psychology;
- the main causes, symptoms and consequences of work-related stress, burnout, workaholism, mobbing.


Applying knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- reflect on the causes of phenomena such as work stress, burnout, workaholism, mobbing and identify possible contrast strategies.

The “Work Psychology” module will introduce basic work psychology topics (e.g., motivation, commitment, performance), and subsequently focus on topics relevant for physicians, i.e. human errors in the workplace; work-related stress and burnout; work engagement and workaholism; workplace aggression and mobbing.

The course of Legal and Occupational Medicine consists of three modules: "Legal Medicine", "Occupational Medicine" and "Occupational Psychology".
The module of Legal Medicine provides frontal lectures and on-line assisted teaching. The on-line teaching hours of moodle platform certification service consist of the insights of some topics presented during the frontal lessons and indicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course. The teaching activity is also integrated by practical activity which consists of lectures, presentation of cases with problem solving method and seminars on specific subjects of the discipline. The teaching activity will also be supplemented by exercises in the morgue with observation of autopsies.

Frontal lessons, debates, and online assisted teaching.

Learning assessment procedures

The learning verification will be carried out by a written exam, lasting 60 minutes, without the use of notes or books or personal multimedia support, in the presence of the teachers. The test will be formulated with multiple-choice questions (5 multiple-choice) relating to all the educational goals. No penalty for wrong answers or not given. The verification will also take into account the practical part. The questions relating to the modules of "Legal Medicine" of "Occupational Medicine" and "Occupational Psychology", based also on clinical cases and autopsy, will verify the knowledge acquired by the student on legal duties and the different applications of etiology and causality.
The test will consist of 62 questions, the number of which will be parameterized to the credits, on topics covered in the 3 modules ("Legal Medicine", "Occupational Medicine" and "Occupational Psychology"). Each question will be worth 0.5 points if correct; wrong answer or no answer 0 points. For the three modules, a minimum score of 18 out of 30 will be required to pass the exam, i.e. to answer correctly at least 36 out of the 62 questions. The maximum grade, equal to 30 cum laude, will be achieved by those who correctly answer at least 61 out of the 62 questions.
