Training objectives

The integrated teaching of Applied Biology and Psychology includes the modules of Applied Biology and Clinical Psychology.
The course aims to provide the basic notions of biology and genetics, highlighting their applications in the medical field, as well as to introduce the foundational elements of the psychological field for building a doctor-patient relationship of trust and improve their attitude by evaluating the motivations.

In the discussion of some topics of the program, the principles of the scientific method and of translational research will be presented.

Some topics will be updated according to the sex/gender approach.

Didactic approaches aimed at improving relational skills will be considered.

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

In terms of knowledge:
know the organization of living things, at the cellular level and of biological macromolecules, and their replicative and reproductive capacity;
understand the flow of genetic information, from DNA to RNA and proteins;
understand the results of genetic mutations and the related alteration of the phenotype;
distinguish the modes of transmission of genetic diseases;
be able to know the molecular genetic approaches used to detect the main mutations of the genetic diseases presented;
know the basic psychological techniques for building a trusting relationship.

In terms of skills:
1. will have the ability to distinguish a eukaryotic cell from a prokaryotic cell;
2. Will be able to describe cell biology and molecular genetics experiments that have helped to clarify the functional and molecular basis of cells.
3. Will be able to set up a pedigree/family tree and molecular analyzes of the mutated DNA.

Didactic methods

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 015478/3 - PSICOLOGIA CLINICA
------------------------------------------------------------
The course provides teaching hours such as theoretical lectures, including teaching seminars, and on-line assisted teaching, in which the tests of resilience and empathy carried out are discussed with analysis of the results to improve awareness and attitudes regarding the choice of the course of study made.

The face-to-face teaching will be accompanied by online teaching support tools (video lessons) to improve the settling down of freshmen off-site or for progressive and late enrolments.

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 26849 - BIOLOGIA APPLICATA
------------------------------------------------------------
The course provides frontal lectures, including teaching seminars, and online assisted teaching. The on-line teaching hours of moodle platform certification service consist in the deepening of some topics presented during the frontal lessons.

The face-to-face teaching will be accompanied by online teaching support tools (video lessons) to improve the settling down of freshmen off-site or for progressive and late enrolments.

Learning assessment procedures

The learning verification will be carried out by a written exam consisting in 65 questions for a total
duration of 60 minutes, without the use of notes or books, in the presence of the teacher. The
questions will be formulated with multiple choice questions (5 options) relating to all the
educational objectives of the course defined above.
The questions will be prepared in order to verify the knowledge acquired in relation to all the
educational parts/modules of the program, with reference to both the basic notions of general and
cellular biology and general and molecular genetics, and their applications in the medical field, also
through the use of simple cases referring to comparisons between normal/wild and altered/mutated
in human models treated in class.
No penalty for wrong or not given answers. The score is given in thirtieths: the minimum grade for
passing the exam, equal to 18/30, is achieved by those who will answer 36 questions out of 65
exactly; 30/30 is obtained by those who correctly answer 60 questions, and the maximum score,
equal to 30 cum laude, is obtained by those who correctly answer more than 60 questions.
The Clinical Psychology module provides psycho-aptitude, resilience and empathy tests, the
compilation of which will allow to obtain an eligibility.
