Training objectives

The course of Pathology II provides the systematic treatment of the pathological basis of diseases of the cardiovascular system, of the female genital tract, of the breast, of the central and peripheral nervous system, of the eye and of the head and neck.

Knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will:
- know the basic concepts about morphological and biopathological characteristics related to the main pathological processes of the cardiovascular system, of the female genital tract, of the breast, of the central and peripheral nervous system, of the eye and of the head and neck.
- will be able to understand the clinical pictures related to different pathologies of such organs and to understand pathology reports

Applying knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student will have developed the ability to
- know how to use the pathological data on morphology, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology for an appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic approach to pathology of the cardiovascular system, of the female genital tract, of the breast, of the central and peripheral nervous system, of the eye and of the head and neck.

Prerequisites

Adequate knowledge of anatomy of the cardiovascular system, of the female genital tract, of the breast, of the central and peripheral nervous system, of the eye and of the head and neck.
Knowledge of general pathology, genetics and molecular biology.

Didactic methods

The course of Pathology II provide frontal lectures and on-line assisted teaching. The on-line teaching hours of moodle platform certification service consist in the insights of some topics presented during the frontal lessons. The teaching activity is also integrated by practical activity which consists in microscopic observation of histologic slides with routine and histochemical or immunohistochemical stains and outline and discussion of cases subjected to biomolecular
analyses for a diagnostic and prognostic-predictive purpose.

Learning assessment procedures

Written multiple choice test; for each question there may be five possible answers, only one correct. Number of questions: 31-40. Time: depending on number of questions: 25-35 minutes. No penalty for wrong or missing answers.
