Training objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the student with the skills required to:
-apply with accountability the diagnostic rationale (self-sufficiency, collaboration and integration) in the nursing care plan.
-identify the healthcare needs of individuals and groups, taking into consideration patient expectations, risk factors and education needs.
-plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in hospital services as well as domiciliary setting in relation to the expectations and resources of both the patient and family members.
-make healthcare decisions in relation to ethical and legal aspects of individual situations.
-delegate work to support staff according to their job profile on the basis of an assessment of nursing care needs.

Prerequisites

Medical-surgical sciences, biomedical sciences, propaedeutic sciences, preventive medicine and health care services
Having completed the number of hours scheduled for the 2nd year internship, having achieved the specific targets with positive evaluation.

Course programme

The course provides the skills required to:
-implement the nursing process in the Units and Services which constitute Departments both in the hospital and in the territory
-acquire a solid grounding in the rules and regulations governing the organisation of psychiatric health services,
-carry out nursing evaluation and patient interview in psychiatric setting,
- treat priority health problems,
-identify needs and relative nursing diagnosis,
-promote acquisition of nursing care skills addressed to the family
-implement the nursing process in emergency setting both in and out of the hospital

Didactic methods

Internship with guided participation activities and with partial direct management of activities.

Learning assessment procedures

- Passing the clinical internship successfully.
- Development of two clinical cases (using the nursing record for teaching purposes) successfully.
