Training objectives

Advanced knowledge in the history of Italian literature; skills: to set a text in its cultural background; to develop quite independently a research work with modern tools

Prerequisites

History of Italian Literature (from XIIIth to XVth century): basic notions.

Course programme

Institutions: history of Italian Literature of 15th century (especially in Ferrara and Florence).

Good knowledge (paraphrase) of:

2) Angelo Poliziano, Orfeo
3) Luigi Pulci, Morgante (first 3 cantos)
4) Matteo Maria Boiardo, Amorum libri tres, (16 text: edited by Tiziano Zanato, Novara, Interlinea Centro Studi Matteo Maria Boiardo, 2012)
5) Matteo Maria Boiardo, Inamoramento de Orlando (first five cantos) edited by Antonia Tissoni Benvenuti and Cristina Montagnani, Milano-Napoli, Ricciardi, 1999; or edited by Andrea Canova, Milano, Rizzoli, 2011.

The monographic course concerns the development of the fifteenth-century chivalric poem.

Lectures and seminars. The course is available in streaming.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral exam. A careful knowledge of the texts of the authors recommended in the summary list is a key part of the exam preparation (generally 3 questions).
