Training objectives

The objectives of the course is the acquisition by pupils of specific skills related to the design disciplines and representation of space geometry. This knowledge is necessary for the development of a comprehensive learning path and comprehensive in the field of product design and staging.
The teaching model promoted, structured on teaching modules, has highly professionalizing value and contributes to structure an approach to the process of representation, comprehensive, modern and trend-oriented dictated by the world of work.

Classic Design and Concept Sketching
The first approach to the design discipline will focus on the teaching of traditional representation techniques and knowledge of the necessary analog instruments. A subsequent phase will be oriented to the knowledge of the basic techniques, it will be in preparation for the next issue of the Concept sketching, where students will have to address the issue of the representation of intangible concepts such as ideas and suggestions, thus articulating a mental representation free transfer from the reading process geometric existent.
This first stage of contact with the discipline will be useful to verify the level of knowledge on the part of students and contribute to the structuring of the subsequent exercises.

This teaching, deliberately limited to two-dimensional aspects of the subject, allows a gradual approach and articulated on the three-year period to an extremely varied discipline that is often tricky to students. The teaching will focus on the presentation of technical papers of medium difficulty, produced by the use of specific software raster and vector, processed by selected software packages among the most popular in the market.

The works produced charts will provide the design basis for a subsequent modeling phase "physical" or prototyping, mockup and scale models made by students. The creation of a physical model, is the meeting point between the ephemeral component of the project and the tangible reality of the realized model, revealing the structural problems and fostering a greater understanding of the technological aspects and embodiments in addition to those stylistic. To tackle the course of teaching are recommended some technical and practical skills related to teaching topics. A good knowledge of the theoretical basis of traditional design, familiarity with analog instruments of design, basics of computer science and good manual skills. The lack of these features is not a reason for exclusion or penalty for the course and can be learned and increased during the course of normal development.

Course programme

Lessons will take place in thematic teaching modules consist of 50-minute lectures, a 10 minute break and 60/120 minutes devoted to specific exercises useful for storing the theoretical process.
The revisions of the material produced will be held after school and will be kept in a collective manner to maximize the opportunities for learning by all students.

Classic Design and Concept Sketching
The lessons will focus on traditional design techniques, tools approach, choice and definition of the most appropriate depending on the technique used tools, specific design techniques for the representation and improvement of existing products, techniques for representing and staging enhancement, technical for pre-visualization of the conceptual product.

Lessons related to the teaching of automatic methods of design will focus on learning the industry standard software packages, specifically Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator while maintaining a methodological approach such that students are released from the use of specific software and can critically orient themselves toward their package more congenial. More lessons will focus on the representation of specific techniques for the production of technical papers created by the use of computerized automation.

physical modeling
Lessons related to physical modeling will focus on knowledge, understanding and interpretation of a two-dimensional files for the design of models and prototypes. Other lectures will deal with the creation of two-dimensional files suitable for the production of physical models, with particular attention to measures required for the creation of "machine tracked" for laser cutting.
Students will be guided to the knowledge of the production methods of specific prototypes for the fields of architecture and industrial product. Within construction / architecture will be the techniques; CNC machining, rapid prototyping, laser cutting and classic joinery techniques.
In industry in addition to milling and prototyping will learn techniques related to the use of thermoplastic materials, in addition to techniques that provide the sculptural modeling methods such as direct approach Clay modeling, plasticine, termoattuate resins, mechanical modeling manual of polyurethane foams and slicing of subject to the 3D model.
Part of the lessons of the course will be carried out within the plastics laboratory of the department of architecture, where you will experience the direct use of some of the most advanced technologies in the industry, supported by technical specialists.

Didactic methods

Part of the lectures will be held in front manner and a part will consist of exercises of design and modeling practices.
The classes will be divided into slots of 50 minutes and will be held by spacing lectures with practical application exercises related to the topic discussed during the lecture. Every 50 minutes are provided a 10 minute break.
More than half of the hours will be used for the design and modeling lessons and exercises held in the classroom. In plastic lab students will begin to use the tools for craft modeling, and to set up elaborate complex, mastering the work phases and the instruments involved.
For the computer part the University makes available desktop computer and software useful to the course, however it is recommended that students are provided with a personal laptop to use even after hours of lessons.

Learning assessment procedures

Students will be involved during the semester in short regular exercises based on the topics from time to time during the lessons. These exercises will be carried out by students and reviewed by teachers during the course, once completed and integrated will make up the final work that will define the final grade.
The exercises provided will focus on the themes of the course and will be composed of manual drafting tests, technical and automatic drawing and physical models.
During the appeal session you will be viewed the material produced, and students will be asked to verbally supplement any gaps in the product material.
