Training objectives

The student by the end of the course is able to recognize the most relevant linguistic features of Modern Mandarin Chinese Language (level A1-A2 of CEFR),in detail, the student can identify elements within extended noun phrase, simple verb phrase, adverb phrase and basic connectors.
The student by the end of the course is also able to understand and utter short dialogues with native speakers in terms of personal introduction, localization, passions and interest, intention and possession, daily routine.

Prerequisites

The student must have attended the course “Chinese language (A)” to get the theoretical access essentials.

Course programme

The lectures focus on the following topics:
-Passions and interests, prepositional phrase (zai), element order in the sentence, particle de, verb-object phrase, adverbs ye and dou, existence verbs (you,zai), possession verbs, noun classifiers, motion verbs, time markers, long-verb phrases, wh-words shenme and na, basic localization.

Moreover, the student has to read three articles on the following topics: Chinese education system, Chinese economic growth, pollution in China.

Learning assessment procedures

Written test
The test aims at assessing the achievement of the educational goals, stated above. The written test consists of a vocabulary and phonetics quiz, grammar exercises, a short reading comprehension and two questions on the cultural readings. All the contents in the test can be found in the materials provided and are discussed in class.
