The EDC of Ferrara publishes a monthly newsletter (only in Italian) mainly for undergraduates and PHD students of the University of Ferrara. The newsletter has information on overseas scholarships, traineeships with European Institutions and Agencies (but also with other international bodies and organisations), the European Voluntary Service and EU Aid Volunteers. It also has information on competitions and awards organised by the European Commission, on job vacancies with European Institutions and Agencies, on publications by the EU Bookshop and activities organized by the EDC of the University of Ferrara.

ACTIVITIES OF THE EDC

• Educational and training activities: organisation of meetings, conferences and seminars on Community issues and training courses on EU databases
• Research activities: the publication of a series of monographic studies "Journals of the EDC" aimed at a deeper analysis of the EU policies
• Dissemination activities: organising events aimed at the general public (such as the annual Europe Day, on 9 May), in collaboration with Eurodesk and Antenna Europe Direct of the City of Ferrara, with which there is a memorandum of understanding for the performance of common activities

PUBLICATIONS OF THE FERRARA EDC

The EDC has its own publishing line which, since the Sixties, has published a series of research studies on topics related to European policies and to the history of European integration. The latest publications have examined topics such as EU environmental law, the rights of prisoners and European prisons, renewable energy and sustainable energy planning. The line has also published the proceedings of conferences organised by the CDE, such as the one entitled "Feed the planet? The role of Europe in world economic and food development".

• EU FUNDING

Page maintained by the National Coordinating Body of the Italian Network of European Documentation Centres, which collects all proposals by topic (agriculture, education, culture, technological research and development, etc.). The site is constantly updated and contains a brief presentation of the notice, highlighting the expiry, the link to the web pages that contain all the information and the necessary forms for submitting projects, and, if published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the full text of the notice in pdf format. • European Commission Grants

The European Commission allocates direct financial aid in the form of grants to support specific projects and/or organizations which promote the interests of the EU or which contribute to the implementation of its programmes or its policies. Interested parties can apply in response to calls for proposals. See the list of grants by category. This site will list the available grants pertaining to activities of particular interest to the Representation in Italy of the European Commission.

• EuroPA

The web Focus EuroPa, managed by Formez PA (Centre for services, assistance, studies and training for the modernisation of Public Administration), provides detailed information on direct EU funding, Community programmes and application deadlines. In addition, the site contains the "Search Partner" database that allows you to find partners for the presentation of European and international projects, and for the exchange of good practice and experience.

• Inforegio

Website of the European Commission (DG Regional Policy) for economic and social development programmes. The implementation of regional policy goes through three main funds: the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), theCohesion Fund (CF) and the European Social Fund (ESF). Together with the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the European Fund for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (EFMAF), the funds described above constitute the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF).

• EUROPA FACILE

Europafacile is the website for European Union policy and funding, designed by the European Union Policy Service of the ERVET, the Emilia-Romagna Regional Economic Development Company (Emilia- Romagna Valorizzazione Economica del Territorio SpA), on behalf of the Region. The site, which can be accessed for free after registration, is updated daily and provides all members with information on the drafting of acts relating to European policies and how to access Community funding opportunities.

• FIRST

FIRST - Funding for Technological Innovation, Research and Development (Finanziamenti per l'Innovazione, la Ricerca e lo Sviluppo Tecnologico) - is an information service (created by ASTER) for community, national and regional funding (mainly for Emilia-Romagna) in the areas of: research and development; technological innovation and transfer; the training and mobility of researchers; international cooperation in matters of research and innovation. FIRST is aimed at businesses, universities, research, technology transfer and training organisations, business associations, science and technology parks, local administrations and credit institutions.

THE ITALIAN NETWORK OF EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION CENTRES (EDCs)

The site of the National Network of European Documentation Centres, hosted on the server of the University of Sassari, offers information on community documentation, as well as on the activities, meetings and projects undertaken by Italian EDCs.

EUROPE DIRECT

The Europe Direct information network, which also includes EDCs, offers practical information on several topics (e.g. how to get your qualifications recognized or how to complain about unsafe products), the details of useful bodies which may need to be contacted and suggestions for solving practical problems when exercising your rights in Europe.

ENTERPRISE EUROPE NETWORK

The new European business support network has been operating since 2008 with the aim of bringing together the services supporting European business competition and innovation previously offered by the "Euro Info Centre (EIC)" and the "Innovation Relay Centre (IRC)". The new network offers a unique help portal particularly for small and medium-sized businesses to develop their full potential and innovative capacity. In Italy, the network is composed of 58 information points with 5 Consortiums.

YOUR EUROPE - CONSULTANCY

A European-wide service providing citizens with information and practical advice on problems associated with mobility within the EU and the internal market. Legal experts working in all the official languages of the EU will answer questions within a week. Experts provide clarification on the applicable regulations, point you towards the body best equipped to resolve your problem and advise on how to assert your rights and obtain redress. The service is completely free and can be contacted by phone (toll-free EUROPE DIRECT number 00800 67 89 10 11) or by sending a message to the experts. The service is provided under the supervision of the Directorate General for the Internal Market.

THE EUROPEAN UNION IN FERRARA

THE OFFICE FOR INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY AND OVERSEAS STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FERRARA

This office has all the information needed to study or train abroad; in Europe (through the Erasmus programme) as well as the United States or Australia. Examinations taken in other universities, if previously agreed, are recognized by our University.

EURODESK LOCAL POINT

The Italian Eurodesk network, with 60 points located throughout Italy, gives information and guidance on the opportunities offered by the EU to young people (in particular in the fields of culture, training, mobility, rights and voluntary work). Eurodesk acts in collaboration with the 'International Youth Mobility Office(Informagiovani) of the City of Ferrara.

ANTENNA EUROPE DIRECT OF THE CITY OF FERRARA

The antenna was born in 2010 with a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Ferrara and the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region, to form a collaboration for the organisation and implementation of local initiatives aimed at raising the awareness of civil society in general, and of young people in particular, as regards the future of Europe, European citizenship and respect for human rights.

THE EUROPEAN UNION IN ITALY

EUROPEAN COMMISSION - Representation in Italy

The European Commission has a network of Delegations within the most important international organizations and in over 110 countries outside the Union, and of Representations in the capital cities of the Member States. The Representations ensure a constant relationship between the European Executive, national and local public institutions and the general public, and guarantee information and communication for the citizens of Europe.

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT -Information office in Italy

The European Parliament has established Offices in all the capital cities of the Member States of the European Union, in order to facilitate and render more direct the contacts between the citizens and their elected Assembly. Based in Rome and inaugurated on 1 September 1967 and with an Antenna in Milan, founded in December 1998, the Italian Office of the European Parliament has the function of organising information campaigns, handling relations with the national media and representing the European Parliament within the Italian Institutions.

SOLVIT

SOLVIT is a network within which EU Member States work together to resolve the problems arising from the incorrect application of internal market rules by public authorities. There is a SOLVIT centre in every Member State of the European Union (as well as in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) which can intervene to resolve problems presented by both citizens and businesses. SOLVIT centres are part of the national administration and are committed to providing concrete solutions within 10 weeks of the case being presented. SOLVIT is a free service. Although its management is the responsibility of the Member States, it is the European Commission that provides the infrastructure and, if necessary, offers assistance to accelerate the solution of the problems.

The catalogue of the libraries of the University, the Municipality and the Province of Ferrara. It contains all the publications in the EDC and can be searched by author and/or title, or a free search can be done by selecting only the document type (book, audiovisual, etc.), or a particular library. If you are a member of the Libraries Union of Ferrara and have a username and password, you can login and check the status of current loans, reserve publications, request inter-library loans or suggest the purchase of a document.

FIND-ER is the online catalogue of the Central Library of the European Commission and contains both the library's paper and its electronic collections. Most resources are available online: the full text of articles, eBooks, databases, etc. Find-er has a wider coverage than the previous ECLAS database. Search menu in English, French and German

• CATALOGUE OF THE COLLECTIVE NATIONAL ARCHIVE OF PERIODICALS (ARCHIVIO COLLETTIVO NAZIONALE DEI PERIODICI - ACNP)

The archive covers all disciplines and contains the bibliographical descriptions of all journals held by the libraries of the University of Ferrara, including the EDC, and by the other Italian libraries belonging to the ACNP. It allows you to check which library holds a journal and find out how to request the articles you are interested in. To complete the documentation, an archive of extracts has been compiled which can be accessed directly via the Article Collection.

• ELECTRONIC PERIODICALS OF THE EU - maintained by the Italian EDC Network

A free access, full-text catalogue of Community electronic periodicals. A search can be made, apart from by title, institution or author, also by subject (all Community policies are covered, from agriculture to transport) and, in some cases, by type (statistics, for example, can be searched separately).

WHAT IS THE EDC?

• The European Documentation Centre (EDC) of the University of Ferrara is an interdepartemental centre that is part of the information network of the EU and is regulated by a convention between the University and the European Commission.
• The EDC network has been established since 1963 in Member States and in third countries with the aim of disseminating information about the Community in universities and research institutes. There are now 70 Centres, 50 of which are in Italy.
