Modulo: 23057 - ARCHITETTURA DEGLI INTERNI
------------------------------------------------------------
Training objectives
Architectural design laboratory aims to direct students in dealing with territorial transformations and its complexity. The laboratory at the fifth academic year strengthens previous years knowledge about complex design projects within multi-part urban background.

The course focuses both on big interventions and small ones, tiny projects, public spaces as well as big urban changes.
Today’s sudden changes in term of quality of our spaces require new methods to be taught, a brand-new critical thinking rather than forced models.

Gained knowledge will be:
Capacity of reading reality is the foundation of design exercises proposed during the course.
urban landscape values, through the analysis of existing buildings fabric, and city structure.
Within the issue of urban complexity, every student will be aware of architectural design aim (the atmosphere)
The noticeable relationship between things’ reality and abstraction, used as design tool
The implications of building structural forms, as a reality reading key and essential element of design process

What students will able to do
Ability to deal with complex design projects at different scales
The Lab provides a unique set off analytic and creative strategies in order to undertake personal and imaginative architecture solutions.
Ability to design for urban transformations as close as possible to conceived objectives
Strategic vision as a design tool, in order design a new urban fabric matching with the existing one.
Project design actions start from concrete and tangible output, the atmosphere, analysing and disassembling things’ reality.
Ideas, raw material, elements of space making.
Most important, the design Lab’s objective is grounded in finding out new urban energies, able to regenerate the existing building environment
General Theme: smart city and healthy city

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 25015 - ESTETICA
------------------------------------------------------------
The Architectural Design Laboratory aims to guide the student to conceive architectural design as a complex relationship between design techniques and cognitive tools.
The main training objective is to prepare the student to know how to manage the entire process leading to the definition of a quality architecture: from conception to construction and the interactions between building and environment, focusing on the conditions of habitability, consistency between structural, typological, distributional, technological and aesthetic choices.

In particular, the course of Aesthetics is aimed at deepening the theoretical-scientific aspects related to the disciplinary field characterizing the Laboratory, so that the student is able to use such knowledge to identify, formulate and solve, also in an innovative way, problems of architecture and construction that are complex or require an interdisciplinary approach

The laboratory aims to convey the ability to reuse and also transform the existing architectural heritage in all its complexity. The laboratory of the fifth academic year, in the progression of the previous years, deals with complex projects in complex contexts. Complexity expressed with small or large interventions. Small or large architectures, public spaces capable of major urban modifications. Currently, the quality objective of our spaces is also changing rapidly, so it is essential not to impose models, but to teach methods and a critical sensitivity.
The knowledge that will be acquired will be:
The ability to read reality is the basis of the proposed design exercises.
The main skills acquired will be: ability of historical critical reading of the context; sensitive approach to contemporary design in relation to the existing context, interior space design
Students will be given the tools to obtain their own quality assessment through a critical approach and questioning on the meaning of the project.
General theme: "Designing the existing" as an oxymoron for a critical and conscious approach of architectural intervention on the architectural but also cultural heritage in general, also through specific typologies such as museums, cultural centers and public spaces in general

The integrated module fits into the main course to support the general teaching objectives of the final synthesis laboratory A (architectural and urban design). The course deepens cognitions already partly developed in the design laboratories of previous years. In particular, the main objective of the course is to is to provide students with the theoretical and practical principles for defining the main compositional elements of architectural design and critically developing them. To this end, analysis of architectural projects will be proposed in the module to be understood as references of the thesis project developed by the laboratory.

Knowledge
The main knowledge to be acquired relates to the following topics:
- morphological reading of architectural space and urban environment;
- identification of typological and historical-evolutionary characters of buildings and urban contexts;
- theoretical foundations of architectural composition since the Modern;
- identification and critical evaluation of compositional models referring to contemporary cultural debate.

Skills
The skills, understood as the operational application of acquired knowledge, to be developed within the module, relate to the following points:
- ability to interpret modern and contemporary architectural language;
- ability to analyze and dorganize complex architectural organisms;
- ability to design buildings in the urban fabric through correct settlement principles;
- ability to coordinate theoretical and practical inputs derived from different disciplines into an overall strategic vision.

Course programme

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 23057 - ARCHITETTURA DEGLI INTERNI
------------------------------------------------------------
Interior Architecture is to be understood as "a hybridisation of doctrines and theories", so it is necessary to reconstruct these traces in order to make them experienceable in the project. The relationship between space, body and object, often exercised in the dimension of living, can establish an initial but not unique approach to the world of interiors and design. It is Peter Zumthor in Thinking Architecture who writes "I still seem to feel the door handle in my hand, that portion of metal configured like the back of a spoon", making visible the signs of a path that defines part of the contents of teaching for the exploration and understanding of complex systems.
In this sense, the contents move according to two main reflections. The first is destined to verify the notion of living as the principle of a domesticity capable of explaining the connections between theories, subjects and authors, in a cycle of references that is able to explain the repercussions in the contemporary world. The second, on the other hand, is dedicated to a broader dimension in order to ask what the interactions between interior and exterior space are, that is, how interior design interacts with existing layers, whether they are of anthropic origin (cities) or of a "natural" dimension (woods, forests, etc.). The lectures, therefore, will attempt to discuss the questions of interior architecture according to four systems of different scales: house, street, city and "forest".
The basis of these questions, addressed to each lecture, in the desire to produce theories and design actions, will be architectural publishing. Therefore, a book or a magazine can be a starting point from which to take notions and verify their implementation in the design activity by describing the discipline of interiors as a practice to describe possible ideas of the world.

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 25015 - ESTETICA
------------------------------------------------------------
The course deals with the analysis of Martin Heidegger's aesthetic thought especially in relation to issues related to the aesthetics of architecture.

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 25947 - STORIA DELL'ARCHITETTURA CONTEMPORANEA
------------------------------------------------------------
Throughout the duration of the Laboratory, links among community, physical element and project design areas will be investigate, in order to find out valuable urban regeneration strategies

Architectural composition

Fair knowledge in architecture design and urban fabric. Emotional analysis. Structural Forms. Transparency and lightness. Natural and urban landscape. Building up a specific atmosphere. Abstraction and reality. Urban regeneration through trade and commerce spaces. Urban liveliness trigger.

During the laboratory we will investigate the best examples of both modern and contemporary architecture projects in relation to the project in historical contexts, both of recovery of the existing and of addition.

These are the main issues addressed in the course. Other knowledge will be added especially related to these areas: Philosophy, history and criticism of architecture, History of Art

Architecture history
The lessons of the History of Architecture module (Prof. Marco Mulazzani) will offer a survey of some experiences of European architectural culture starting from the second half of the twentieth century, where abstract city planning tools are questioned in favor of a design thinking that brings attention to the intertwining of historical, social and environmental aspects that define the living spaces of the Communities.

Interior architecture
The contents of interior architecture concern the introduction to the design methodologies of the interior space. The elements that build it will be explored: structures, materials, proportions, light, interior furnishings and relationships with the outside. The module will address the project from concept to details. There will also be a specific contribution in the field of museography

Theories and methods of architectural design
The module explores the theories of architectural and urban design aimed at forming a critical awareness of reading projects in students

Aesthetics
The content of the Aesthetics module will be aimed, through theoretical lessons, at framing historical and contemporary architectural phenomena in a more general frame of reference of the historical context in which they occur and therefore acquire meaning. Architecture responds and corresponds to a specific historical and social moment and it is therefore important for the architect to understand these issues.

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 55501 - TEORIE E METODI DELLA PROGETTAZIONE ARCHITETTONICA
------------------------------------------------------------
The course has two differentiated but integrated components, dealing with architectural theory and the strategic development of modern and contemporary design. The following relationships are analyzed in the course: nature-architecture, structure-cladding, tradition-innovation, space-perception, context-identity. Particular attention is paid to the control of the ideas that will be dropped into the different design proposals.
In addition, a part of the module is devoted to exploring theories and experiences of contemporary architectural design in its relationship with pre-existences and heritage in its different connotations and dimensions, particularly in the work of Carlo Scarpa.

Didactic methods

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 23057 - ARCHITETTURA DEGLI INTERNI
------------------------------------------------------------
The module is divided into theoretical activity and practical activity (project exercise). The lectures, in the form of seminars, will be carried out in two stages: the first devoted to the description of theories and projects, the second to a brief exercise in the application of what has been discussed (Pinocchio). It will be important on these occasions to establish a discussion of the elements described in order to build an essential comparison for the project activity. At the end of each lesson, the student will be offered a brief experience of critical activity or research in order to put into practice the notions of the discipline to be applied later in the workshop and as a strategic project action during the indicated exercise.

Exercise topic: The Adventures of Pinocchio
