Training objectives

The course intends to provide students with a strong basic preparation on the fundamentals of Human Geography. A theoretical introduction will be followed by a discussion of main aspects of human presence and activity on the planet. Interactions between humankind and the environment, as well as among human groups will also be presented, with reference to the most important issues involving geographical systems, groups and cultures, at several different scales.
With specific regard to the geography of tourism, the course will present a conceptual framework on themes that have a major value in the industry.
Theoretical presentations and case-studies discussion will train the students' ability to verify the actual potential of spaces and places in terms of material and cultural value.
Examples about forms of territorial evolution triggered or encouraged by tourism will be proposed, highlighting positive and negative implications of each process.
