Collections

The plant collections of the Botanic Garden are divided into five sections and many sectors. The sections and relating sectors are:

• Systematics

The plants in this section are ordered based on a systematic, in agreement with most recent classifications.

Sectors: Pteridophyta; Gimnospermae; Magnoliids; Monocots; Eudicots.

• Theme gardens

This section includes ornamental plants predominantly organized in small theme gardens whose purpose is primarily aesthetic and popular.

Sectors: Rock garden; Shade garden; Mediterranean garden; English garden; Hygrophytes sector; Acquatic plants; Moor; Officinal plants sector; Italian garden; Japanese garden

• Useful plants

In this section the plants are grouped according to the usefulness to humans.

Sectors: Orchard garden, Plants for industry, Aromatic plants, Medicinal Plants.

• Protected flora

This section collects protected plants of the italian flora originating, in large part, the territory of Ferrara.

Sectors: Terrestrial and hygrophilous protected plants; Aquatic protected plants.

• Exotic flora

The plants in this section are all in pots or baskets and are hospitalized in the winter in a greenhouse. The many areas are formed, in practice, from collections of plants of tropical or subtropical origin. This section includes plants of various types (succulents, epiphytics, carnivorous, ornamentals, officinals, etc.).

Sectors: Exotic ferns; Exotic Gymnospermae; Sensitive plants; Exotic acquatic plants; Exotic officinal plants; Succulent plants; Epiphytic Bromeliads; Epiphytic succulent plants; America and Africa plants; Eastern Asia and Oceania plants; Carnivorous plants; Epiphytic Orchids; Musaceae sector; Palm sector.
