Training objectives

At the end of the class the student should be capable of solving a problem in the field of semicodnuctors and knowing the state of the art of chemoresistive solid state gas sensors.

Prerequisites

Bachelor in physics

Course programme

The scientific method. Measures, experiment, theory. Physical quantities. The measuring systems. The reference systems. Cohordinates. Vectorial calculus. Maxwell's equations. Bloch's Theorem.
Semiconductors, insulators, conductors. Chemoresistive sensors. Free energy and electrochemical potential. Nanostrctured semiconductors. Tunneling in nanostructured semiconductors. p-n junction. Schottky barrier. Spherical junction. Pinning of Fermi level. Impedance spectroscopy. electrical characterisztions. Thick film technology.

Didactic methods

frontal lessons and exercises at the end of each topic.

Learning assessment procedures

The examination is an oral interview in English to evaluate the acquired knowledge and skills. Three open questions will be asked, one of which on a topic chosen by the student.
