Training objectives

The main goal of the course is to enhance the student's knowledge in the field of pharmacology and, specifically, about the correct use of drugs by athletes, not only professionals but also amateurs.
The student will deepen his knowledge in the field of pharmacology.
In particular, the main knowledge acquired will concern the classification of the main classes of drugs and methods prohibited in sport.
The main skills (i.e. the ability to apply the acquired knowledge) will be:
-to analyze the possible pharmacological therapies applicable in sport
-to critically evaluate the adequacy of the possible "alternative medicines" in sport.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, pathology.

Course programme

The course forecasts 8 hours of teaching through frontal lectures divided as follows:
Pharmacology: History of pharmacology and characterization of drug development research (2 hours).
Classification of the main classes of drugs and methods prohibited in sport (3 hours).
Analysis of the possible pharmacological therapies applicable in sport also with reference to "alternative medicines" (3 hours).

Didactic methods

The course is organized through frontal lectures on all the course’s topics.

Learning assessment procedures

The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the learning objectives previously described have been acquired.
One test (16 multiple choice questions) based on all the topics covered in the course with the aim of evaluating how deeply the student has studied the subject and how he is able to understand the basic topics analyzed.
Each question is worth 2 points if correct; wrong answer or no answer 0 points; limited to 16 correct answers match score of 30/30 cum laude; 9 correct answers match score of 18/30 .
Time for the text is 1 hour.
