Training objectives

This course aims to lead the student to the understanding of : 1. the properties of biological macromolecule; 2. the structure, organization and function of the prokaryotic, eukaryotic and virus; 3. the structure and function of organelles; 4. the replicative capabilities of cells; 5. the flow of genetic information from DNA to RNA and proteins; 6. how the genetic information is inherited and the modalities of gene expression; 7. of the fundamental principles of inheritance; 8. of genetic mutations and pathologies; 9. of particular approaches of applied biology technologies for pathology studies.
Provide the student with the basis of the human motion, to facilitate the comprehension of the technical expertise that they will learn during the degree course.
Be aware of the complexity of the human movement, towards the analysis of its components and its control system.

Modulo: 71276 - PRINCIPI DI BIOLOGIA E GENETICA
------------------------------------------------------------
General characteristics of biological macromolecules. Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells: structure, organization and functions. Viruses. Cytoplasmic membrane and mechanisms of transport. The structures and functions of cytoplasmic organelles: smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, golgi apparatus, lysosomes, peroxisomes and mitochondria. Nucleus, nuclear receptor and nucleolus. Cytoskeleton. Cellular communication. DNA as a depositary of genetic information. DNA replication models: experiments of Griffith, Avery, Hershey and Chase, Melselson-Stahl. Mitosis. Transcription. Translation. The cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis. Mutations: types, origins and consequences. General genetics: Mendel's experiments, and beyond. Mendelian transmission of hereditary characteristics: autosomal dominant and recessive transmission, associated with the X chromosome. Monofactorial diseases: autosomal dominant (examples: familial hypercholesterolemia, Huntington's chorea), autosomal recessive (examples: beta thalassemias, cystic fibrosis), linked to X. (examples: muscular dystrophies, haemophilia A). The technologies of DNA and genomics.

Learning assessment procedures

ELEMENTS OF BIOLOGY AND GENETICS
31 multiple choice questions, each of which with 4 possible answer options (honors will be awarded with a number of correct answers equal to 31).
Allotted time 30 minutes. Evaluation: 1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for each answer not given or for each wrong answer
BASIS OF HUMAN MOVEMENT AND SPORTS
Twenty multiple choice questions. Each question has 4 possible answers, with just one that is correct. Total duration of the test: 15 minutes.
Evaluation: 1 point for each correct answer; 0 points for every missed or wrong answer.

THE EVALUATION OF THE INTEGRATED COURSE IS GIVEN BY THE WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS RETURNED IN EACH PARTIAL TEST.
