MODULE NEUROLOGY - NEUROGERIATRICS: On completion of the course the student is expected to have acquired an understanding of :
- the neuroanatomical and neurophysiological basis of neuropsychological and cognitive functions, emotions, and behaviour.
-the major pathological syndromes and diseases affecting the above functions.
-the major neurological functions and their alterations.
-the neurological side effects of psychotropic drugs.
-the main bio-psycho-social changes in aging (adaptation/disadaptation, normal and abnormal aging.
-the main assessment tools in geriatrics.
Knowledge of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies in old age.

MODULE CLINICAL NURSING AND CHILD NEUROPSYCHIATRY: Acquire knowledge on the functioning, paths and main intervention models of the autism spectrum disorder and psychotic onset. Acquire the basic skills to set up a rehabilitative therapeutic project in Child Neuropsychiatry.

MODULE NURSING CLINICAL AND GERIATRICS NEUROPSYCHIATRY: The course aims to provide students with essential skills to be able to approach the subject in the geriatric age. The student will learn the methods of intervention for geriatric patients who have verbal and physical aggression and the disorders that characterize this age group, namely Dementia. Particular attention will be given to Alzheimer's disease by investigating methods of intervention and strategies for maintaining cognitive functions.

General concepts of stature and weight growth, pubertal development. Pre and postnatal psychomotor development. Preterm birth and development of the preterm baby. The neurobehavioral assessment of the newborn. General concepts on the main neurological diseases of childhood. General concepts on cerebral palsy’s etiology and development. Neurosensory pathologies. Chromosomal pathologies (trisomy 21, FRAX, Klinefelter Syndrome). I traumi cranici in età evolutiva.

Introduction to aging populations in the Western world in general and Italy in particular. The concept of aging; aging of various organs and systems. Basic concepts and practical aspects of methodology of work in geriatrics: Geriatric Multimedia Assessment. Specific medical aspects of the geriatric patient. Falls in the elderly: intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors, consequences, prevention. Bedbound patients; definition, physiopathological and clinical aspects of some of the systems affected. Pressure sores in the bedbound patient; pathogenetic mechanisms, prevention, treatment. Dementia in the elderly patient: definition of dementia, classification, physiopathology, clinical aspects, diagnosis and therapy. Depression in the elderly patient; definition, specific features in the elderly patient , relationship between dementia and depression. Malnutrition in the elderly patient, definition, risk factors, basic concepts of nutrition and body mass, methods for diagnosis of malnutrition. Organisation of geriatric services; geriatric assessment, domiciliary visits, nursing homes, hospital services; the network of services.

Learning assessment procedures

MODULE NEUROLOGY: oral exam
MODULE NEUROGERIATRICS: oral examination lasting about 15 minutes. You will be asked 2 questions. To pass the exam you need to acquire a minimum of 18/30 points. The evaluation will take into account the quality of the frequency, of the knowledge acquired, the language of relevance and capacity for analysis and correlation
MODULE GERIATRICS: WRITTEN EXAMINATION. THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS IN A MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONARIE COMPOSED BY 28 QUESTIONS. EACH CORRECT ANSWER SCORES 1.0 POINT, WHILE EACH WRONG OR MISSING ANSWER SCORES 0 POINTS. THE TIME AVAILABLE FOR THE WTITTEN EXAMINATION IS 1 HOUR.
MODULE GENERAL AND SPECIALISED PEDIATRICS: One oral section (about 20 minutes) where will be propose almost two questions. To pass the exam it is necessary to get at least 18 point out of 30. The evaluation will consider of acquired knowledge, pertinence of the language and the capacity of correlation between signs and children disease.
MODULE CHILD NEUROPSYCHIATRY: Classroom presentation of a group work on a topic of programme and oral examination. Oral exam duration: 15-20 minutes, with at least two questions. Evaluation criteria are: mastery, linguistic relevance, clarity of exposition and the ability of clinical correlations and practices.
CLINICAL NURSING AND GERIATRIC NEUROPSYCHIATRY MODULE: Exam
oral, divided into 2 questions regarding the concepts provided during the lessons and the ability to apply them in clinical practice, lasting 15-20 minutes per student.
MODULE NURSING CLINICAL AND CHILD NEUROPSYCHIATRY: Oral exam divided into 3 questions on topics addressed during the lessons. Average time required per student 20 minutes.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
