PROFESSIONAL TRAINING ACTIVITIES (THIRD YEAR - SECOND TERM) - EXAM

Training objectives

At the end of the training the student must know technologies and materials with the purpose to produce images and radiant therapies; the student must know the parameters characterizing energies used for the extraction of images; the student must acquire knowledge of the systems of survey, filing and distance transmission of imagines. The student must acquire the technical knowledges concearning radiologic examinations of Ultrasound, of Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance (MR), Nuclear Medicine, Neuroradiology and Radiotherapy. The student must finally know and respect the ethical and deontological Code of professional standards, established by National Commettee, and solve, as far as it concern to him, the problems connected with patients relationship.

Prerequisites

Knowledges acquired in the semesters and preceding years are needed.
All teachings of preceding years must be acquired.

Course programme

The traineeship is carry out in sanitary structures settled with National Health Service, Local Hospital, University Policlinic and Sanitary Unit. The practical activity of third year, besides traditional conventional examinations acquired in the preceding years, concerns:
-Computerized tomography
-Nuclear Medicine. Warm Chamber, Spect, Pet and Radiometabolic Therapy
-Magnetic Resonance. Investigations with and without Contrast Agent to low and high field
-Radiotherapy. Simulation, radiotherapic treatments with Linear Accelerators, Brachitherapy, -IntraOperativeRadioTherapy
The student traineeship will be carry out within the whole areas previously described, particularly
-Radiotherapic Area- preparation and the application of screenings and immobilization systems for patients and IntraOperating RadioTherapy within Operating Rooms in Ferrara Local Hospital
-Nuclear Medicine Area-the traineeship is planned in 3 days Hot lab activity and 1 day activity in RadioMethabolic Unit
The student must also acquire, limitedly to his role, the ability of:
-Manage the quality control of images and equipments
-Analize in a critical way images and used techniques, describing technical and methodological adjustments applied to get specific imaging
-The student must learn how behave in a responsible way with other professionists involved in diagnostic routine, with patients and with all clinical tutors, respecting roles and organizational hierarchy to forward a better team job
-The student must be doing everything in its power to assure the safety of patiens
-The student must respect in every situations, the deontological professional conduct code

Didactic methods

During its traineeship the students will be assisted by a clinical tutor, a senior radiographer, in radiologic units areas
The traineeship includes also simulation activity in didactical laboratory (radiological rooms) with anthropomorphous manikin.

Learning assessment procedures

End of term assessment is submited to achieving of 625 hours. The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths, with weighted-average and it’s structured as below:
-Laboratory assesment included in “Training activities” 3rd year, I semester no examination
-Clinical tutor (senior radiographers) give a evaluation report for every single training period. In this form, practical skills and behavioral elements are examined. This evaluation is considered after the written test has passed.
-Projected written test, time required 1:30 hour (2 examinations in the session June 1 to July 31, 1 exam in extraordinary sessions recovery from September 1 up to 30 and from January 15 to February 28).
The written test change continuosly and it’s related to whole topics concearning the three years program. To pass the exam it is necessary to get at least 18 points out of 30.
The structure is:
-4 essay type questions (long answer) – 0 up to 4 points per essay
-4 anatomic framework identifications – 0 up to 3 points per framework identifications
-3 multiple-choice questions (5 fixed options) – 0 up to 2 point per question
The teacher assesses the clarity of exposure, precision, ability to synthesize and relate all the topics, as well as for honor assign (1 point). It is not allowed consulting any textbook or using any PC, smart phone.
