Training objectives

The main objective of the course is to provide students with the tools and methodologies that will allow the development of knowledge, specialized technical skills, communication in the specific context of the ophthalmic operating theater.
The student must be able to know the legislation and know how to apply the risk-management and safety procedures of the operators and of the patient in the operating room during eye procedures.
Know and know how to collaborate in the development of the organizational and care logic of the operating room
Know and be able to apply the communication methods of the assistant ophthalmologist orthopedic surgeon used in the operating room.

Course programme

The course includes three theoretical lessons to be held in the classroom and two lessons composed of simulated guided exercises to be held in the operating room.
Concept of responsibility, competence and skill, skills of the orthoptist assistant in ophthalmology in the operating room.
The operating context of the operating room and its organization, safety and risk management in the operating room, the checklist and safety in the operating room.
Guidelines, procedures and protocols, health and hygiene recommendations for operating room staff, hand hygiene and types of washing, with particular attention to surgical washing, use of PPE, sterility concept and sterile field, instruments specific equipment, technologies and medical surgical devices present in the ophthalmology operating room,

Didactic methods

Lectures for the theoretical contents in the program; practical lesson for the acquisition of technical skills.

Learning assessment procedures

The objective of the exam consists in verifying the acquisition of the skills transmitted during the theoretical lessons.
The exam modality is written and foresees the administration of 10 multiple choice questions for the achievement of a minimum of 18 points up to a maximum of 30. An open answer to achieve praise. The time available for the exam is 1 hour.
