Training objectives

The objective of the course will be to learn at the students detailed study of knowledge and skills about the clinical, rehabilitative and forensic management of low-vision or blind patient.
The main acquired knowledge will be:
knowledge regarding the clinical, rehabilitative and forensic management of low-vision or blind patient.
The basic acquired abilities (that are the capacity of applying the acquired knowledge) will be:
To identify and to recognize clinical, rehabilitative and forensic path of management of low-vision or blind patient.

Prerequisites

The following concepts and the knowledge provides by the courses of “Ocular Anatomy” and “Ocular physiology” are mandatory.

Course programme

The module forecasts 12 hours of frontal lectures and guided practical simulation.
Epidemiology of major diseases causative of low-vision or blindness.
Clinical assessment of patient with visual impairments to manage the rehabilitative training.
Forensic assessment of patient affected by low-vision or blindness.
Notions concerning type and utilization of rehabilitation aids (optical, electronic and typhlotechnic) dedicated to patients with low-vision or blindness.

Didactic methods

Frontal lectures and guided practical simulation

Learning assessment procedures

One oral section of 20 minutes, where the ability of linking different subjects related is evaluated, rather than the ability of “repeating” specific topics tackled in the course. To pass the exam it is necessary to get at least 18 point out of 30.
