MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY
To provide the basic theoretical knowledge about anatomy and pathophysiology of the cervical- cephalic complex
To provide information as regard etiology and therapies of cervical- cephalic diseases
The student have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding about the main diseases of the cervical- cephalic region as regard otolaryngology, maxillofacial and plastic surgery.

Basic principles in Plastic Surgery: grafts, flaps and “Z plasty”.
Main tumors of the oral cavity.
Fascio-cutaneous flaps for cervico-facial reconstructions.
The platisma flap.
Basic techniques and main flaps in microsurgery.

MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY
Fractures of the mandible and maxilla. Cancer of the oral cavity and paranasal sinuses. Malformation of the face. Pre-prosthetic surgery. Overview on the orthognatic surgery.

Differential diagnosis of aural pain. AOM and OME. Nasal signs and symptoms. Acute and chronic sinusitis. Nasal and paranasal tumors. Adenoids and tonsils phlogosis. Non neoplastic oral lesions. Oral cancers. Salivary glands tumors. Facial palsy. Oropharynx tumors. Larynx tumors. Cervical adenopathies and diagnostic work-up of metastasis: atipic facial pain.

Theoretic lessons with avaiability of practical activity.

Learning assessment procedures

MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY
Oral exam with 3 questions for 10 minutes each (average interval 8-12 minutes), with the following criteria (qualitative) used in the evaluation: clarity and precision.
OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY
Oral examination, an average of 5 questions (divided by the three teachers) on various topics, lasting 20-30 min (evaluating the clarity the ability to link the rigor and communication skills)
PLASTIC SURGERY
Oral exam: 3 questions will be made in order to evaluate the capability in communication. The duration of the exam will be approximately 15 minutes for each student:
The final grade is a weighted average of the marks obtained in each of the three tests.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH OF THE THREE TESTS.
