Training objectives

The integrated course of DENTAL MATERIALS AND PROSTHETIC TECHNOLOGIES (FIRST PART NO EXAM) consists of the modules of DENTAL MATERIALS and PROSTHETIC AND LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIES.

The objective of the integrated course is to know the science of Biomaterials as regards the practice of Dentistry and the laboratory techniques suitable for the creation of prosthetic products.

DENTAL MATERIALS
Dental materials science and technology. Composition, structure and state of aggregation.
Equilibrium states. Adhesion and cohesion.
Biologic, physical, technical and merciological general properties.
Metals: solidification and structure, deformation, hardening, recrystallization and grain growth.
Alloys: solid state constitution and reaction. Thermal treatments. Corrosion.
Amalgams alloys and their structure. Dental amalgams: dimensional variations, resistance, creep (Gold for direct fillings).
Dental cements: classification, composition and structure.
Synthetic polymers: composite materials. Adhesive systems. Polymerization techniques.
Endodontic materials. Ni-Ti alloys.
Alloys of noble casting metals, alloys of non-noble casting metals, alloys of semi-finished noble and base metals. The steels.
Coatings: classification, structure and composition. Solders and welding procedures.
Gypsium materials: plaster models, plaster impressions.
Waxes.
Dental ceramics: classification and structure.
Synthetic polymers: prosthetic resins.
Rigid impression materials: thermoplastic pastes, gypsium, zinc oxide-Eugenol pastes.
Elastic impression materials: irreversible hydrocolloids, reversible hydrocolloids, elastomers.

Lost wax casting techniques. Lab techniques for the realization of removable prostheses (flask).
