Training objectives

To get a good knowledge of the human body, in particular of the first region of the alimentary tract.

Prerequisites

Adequate knowledge about the mammalian cell structure and the mechanisms regulating cell functions, as well as about the structural and functional organization of tissues and the mechanisms regulating cell communication.

Course programme

General morphology and major anatomical and functional aspects of the heart. Arterial system, venous system. Fetal circulation. Hepatic portal system. General organization of the lymphatic system. Waldeyer's ring. Respiratory system. Pleurae and respiratory mechanisms. Alimentary, urinary and reproductive systems. Blood and lymphatic vessels of the head and neck. Development of the nervous system. Spinal cord and spinal nerves. Brainstem and of cranial nerves. General organization of cerebellum, thalamus, hypothalamus. Cerebral cortex and main sensory and motor areas. Sensory and motor pathways (pyramidal and extrapyramidal).
Detailed knowledge of V, VII, IX, X, XI and XII cranial nerves. Orthosympathetic and parasympathetic innervation of the head and neck. Trigeminal tract. Gustatory tract. Endocrine apparatus.

Didactic methods

Frontal lesson, guided exercises of macroscopic anatomy on anatomical models, human and animal preparations, online lessons. Online tutorials, on the Moodle Certified platform, will provide insight into some of the topics discussed in the frontal lessons and indicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral exam: an average of 2 questions on various topics, average duration 30 min. Will be evaluated, in addition to the basic understanding of the topics, the clarity and the ability to connect various aspects of the treated arguments.
