Training objectives

The aim of this course will be to familiarize the student to new molecular technologies applications in the study of cancer patients genotypic characteristics. In this way the student will be introduced to the potentialities of these technologies in the diagnostic-therapeutic story of the cancer patient

Prerequisites

Notions of General Genetics, Molecular Biology, General Pathology

Course programme

Study of new molecular technologies applications in oncology as a diagnostic-therapeutic approach to neoplasms. The use of these techniques opens the door to a wide range of approaches with translational implications: the study of the molecular processes and mechanisms of carcinogenesis, through the characterization of genetic and epigenetic alterations of tumors; a better understanding of the complex interaction between the molecules of the same network; the identification of diagnostic, prognostic, predictive and therapeutic monitoring biomarkers for the cancer patient; the identification of specific molecular targets for the development of precision oncology drugs and the development of innovative therapies specific for the patient; the engineering of immune system cells for therapeutic purposes; the identification of new therapeutic approaches through the definition of the role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in cancer

Didactic methods

Frontal lessons; “Moodle” platform

Learning assessment procedures

The aim of the exam will be to verify the level of achievement of the indicated educational objectives. It will be a written test, with open questions regarding the topics covered during the course (1 hour and 30 minutes available)
