Training objectives

The course aims to provide the student with the essential instruction in laboratory diagnostics in neurosonology and neuroradiology –neuroimaging in the pathologies of the peripheral and central nervous system.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the nervous system

Course programme

1. Electromyography and nerve conduction velocity in normal and pathological conditions
2. Motor evoked potentials in the study of central motor pathways; somatosensory evoked potentials; visual evoked potentials; acoustic evoked potentials
3. The Liquor cerebro-spinal fluid: pathophysiology of the circle; laboratoristic cyto-chemical investigations in the main acute and chronic neurological diseases
4. Blood-brain barrier, and its abnormalities in neuro-immunopathology
5. Deep brain stimulation in dystonia and Parkinson's disease
6. Studies of the pathophysiology of intracranial circulation: Echocolordoppler of neck vessels, transcranial Doppler
7. Electroencephalography (EEG) in normal and pathological conditions
8. EEG and polygraphy in the normal and pathological sleep; EEG and polygraphy in the epilepsies.
9. TC and MRI brain and spinal cord under normal and in pathological condicions
10. The functional MR imaging and spectroscopy in normal and pathological condicions
11. Angiography, MRA, CT and MRA of the Circle Extra-and Intra-Cranial and Interventional Neuroradiology
12. SPECT, and PET DaTSCAN in normal and pathological condicions

Learning assessment procedures

Written exam. 30 questions with multiple choices’ answers. 5 answers are proposed for each question. Every corrected answer is evaluated one point. If the answer is uncorrected or the question is without answer, no point is assigned. Other three optional questions are proposed in the questionnaire; if they are completed and the answers are exacted, 30 cum laude can be obtained. Length of exam is 60 minutes.
