the modifications of the cell cycle and to paradigmatic genetic lesions leading to the development of some neoplasias and the salient interactions between tumor growth and host response, with particular reference to the immune and inflammatory responses
The student will acquire the capability to organize efficacious reasoning on some clinical manifestations of patients affected with hemopoietic tumors.

Prerequisites

Cell biology, histology, anatomy, biochemistry

Course programme

Cell cycle.
Molecular and genetic mechanisms of genomic aberrations in hematologic and non-hematologic neoplasms.
Invasion and metastasis: biologic mechanisms. Angiogenesis.
Classification of hemopoietic neoplasms.
Identifying normal and abnormal blood cells.
Molecular genetic techniques.
Medical and surgical approach to cancer treatment.

Learning assessment procedures

Multiple choice test (dutch students). The test will be 120 minutes in length, with 50 questions (4 possible answers, only 1 correct). 0,61 points will be assigned to each correct answer; 0 points will be assigned to unanswered questions and -0,1 points will be assigned to incorrect answers. The maximum score will be 30 and honors; the minimum score to pass the exam is 18 points. The final score will be adapted to the scoring system adopted by the University of Maastricht.
Oral examination (italian students) 15-20 minutes in length, with 2 questions, 1 on the general principles underlying of neoplastic growth, 1 dealing with the solution of a clinical case. The final score will be assigned based on the completeness and clarity of presentation and on the capability to organize reasoning on a clinical case. The maximum score is 30 and honors; the minimum score to pass the exam is 18 points.
Given the particular teaching method with which they are required courses (PBL) and the organization of the final exam, the exam must be done at the end of each cycle of lessons and not in years other than the frequency.
