Training objectives

Learning of the fundamental physiological principles of transcranial magnetic stimulation. Main clinical applications in the field of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of neurobiology, neurophysiology, neurology and psychiatry.

Course programme

Principles of cerebral electromagnetism. Elements of plasticity and cortical connectivity. Double stimulus protocols for the study of intracortical circuits. Protocols with repetitive stimuli for the induction of long-term potentiation. Integration of transcranial magnetic stimulation with electroencephalogram and magnetic resonance. Clinical use in the field of post-stroke neuro rehabilitation, dementia, Parkinson's disease, drug-resistant depression.

Didactic methods

Lectures, presentation of documentation relating to clinical cases and therapeutic instrumentation in use. Exercise with vision of the instrumentation normally used.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral examination. 3 questions will be asked regarding 3 different topics covered. The exam will have an average duration of 20-25 minutes. The state of knowledge of the subject, the clarity of presentation and the ability to apply information to clinical dermatological practice will be evaluated. Passing the exam is subject to the achievement of minimum score (18).
