Training objectives

This course (optional) aims to provide knowledge on the clinical management of the neuroendocrine tumors
The main acquired knowledge will be:
-Molecular, pathological and pathophysiological of neuroendocrine tumors
-Diagnostic approach to clinical , biochemical and instrumental to the neuroendocrine neoplasms
-Therapeutic approach to neuroendocrine tumors
The basic acquired abilities will be:
Knowledge of the clinical management of the neuroendocrine tumors
Acquisition of skillfulness for interdisciplinary working

Prerequisites

The following concepts are mandatory: background knowledge in anatomy of the endocrine system; background knowledge in physiology and biochemistry pathology and pathophysiology of the endocrine system

Course programme

Classification of neuroendocrine tumors
Neuroendocrine tumors of the gastro-entero-pancreatic system: clinical picture, diagnosis and therapeutic approach
Neuroendocrine tumors of the lung: clinical picture, diagnosis and therapeutic approach
Pheochromocytoma and paranganglioma: clinical picture, diagnosis and therapeutic approach.

Frontal lectures
Presentation and Discussion of Clinical Cases in collaboration also with other specialists

Learning assessment procedures

The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the learning objectives previously described have been acquired, by a test lasting 1 hour with 31 questions displaying 4 possible answers (only one is correct); each correct answer is equivalent to 1 point, while each wrong or blank answer is 0 points.
The test will evaluate the acquired knowledge and the capacity of connecting the acquired notions. To pass this test it is required to get at least 18 points out of 30
