The module of Biostatistics aims to provide a firm grounding in the foundations of probability and statistics, in order to understand and explain the essential measures used in epidemiology. At the end of the course the student will know the main characteristics of all epidemiological studies; understand how the epidemiological methodology is a basis for clinical research and healthcare management; know the foundations of both descriptive and inferential statistics.
EBN (EVIDENCE BASED NURSING)
Assist the person in respect of the recommendations and evidence of effectiveness.
Keep up to date their knowledge, in particular:
develop critical thinking in relation to their specific professional and evidence of effectiveness found in the literature
Conduct a literature search
Critically evaluate scientific articles.

Learning assessment procedures

EBN:
To be admitted to the written exam, students must have previously obtained a positive assessment in the other two tests, consisting of:
• a group work in classroom: critical evaluation of a research article provided by the teachers.
The evaluation is performed in 30 eminent calculated based on the number of items correctly identified by the students, compared with an evaluation grid.
• individual work, that is to perform a search of the literature based on a question provided in class, where students select a relevant abstract and make a critical analysis of the same answer 7 questions provided.
The two votes are competing for 1/6 each to the final vote of the form, calculated using the weighted average.
The remaining 2/3 are derived from written exam, composed of 15 questions (9 multiple choice and 6 short open answer); some questions are purely theoretical, others require the reading and interpretation of a short text. Time available: 30 minutes.
The topics under consideration are: basic elements of EBP, research questions, data and their functioning banks, primary and secondary research designs.
It passes the exam with at least 8 correct answers; the questions all have the same score. To determine the vote using the following scheme: 8 correct answers vote 18/30 , 9 correct answers 20/30, 10 correct answers vote 22/30, 11 correct answers 24/30, 12 correct answers 26/30, 13 correct answers 28/30, 14 correct answers 30/30.
If the student answers exactly to all the questions, he obtains praise, that in calculating the weighted average worth 32; if he answers to a partially corrected or still more questions worth only one point (two questions partially correct does not count as one right question), if he answers correctly to 7 questions and a partially, is not considered sufficient to pass the exam.
There will be no penalty in case of error.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Through group work, elaboration of a research question by adopting the EPICOT model.
Assessment of the consistency of the paper with the EPICOT model, ability to exhibit and critical and reflective thinking and to bring the paper back to the school internship experience
APPLIED STATISTICS
Written exam with 30 multiple-choice questions. For each question, there may be one to four correct answers. Half of the score of each question will be cut for any wrong or missing answer. The entire mark assigned to a question will be cut if two or more answers are wrong, or if two or more correct answers are missing. Time: 50 minutes. Minimum score: 18.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
