Training objectives

The aim of the course is to deepen some of the communicative techniques available in educational contexts, especially in the ones concerning the area of disability.
The concept of disability highlighted by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (WHO 2011) will be object of discussion and by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (ONU 2006). Furthermore the changes inducted in the intervention operative models will be studied.
The theme regarding the psychological consequences which develop after permanent alterations happened during the developing age, will be faced as introduction to the issue of an efficient communication in the educational relationship.
It will be referred to the biological bases of the motivational and emotional systems of the human being and the model of attachment.
In a segment of the course will be dealt with the theme of animation and the documentation of the educative action through the use of video-technology.
Some of the main aspects of the educative intervention definable as “Grammar of intervention” will be enucleated.
The theme of the safeguard of identity of the person according to the dialectic model of the dementia disease of Tom Kitwood will be discussed.
A focus will be about the evolution of paradigms on disability from a historical perspective from antiquity to the present day.
It will be dealt with the issue of the Institute of “Support Administrator”, with particular attention to existing connections between the function of legal protection and the services in support of the person in condition of fragility.
Will be studied in depth the role of the educator in the school and professional relationships with other role models, particularly with the support teachers, assistants to the communication and the curricular teachers.
Some special communication techniques: Braille, Malossi, E-tran (communication through scanning) will be illustrated and experimented.
The methodology of the “Augmentative Alternative Communication” (AAC) referring in particular to the production and the use of communication boards will be illustrated.
The theme of animation as instrument of mediation and self-experimentation, also through practical training of cooperative play, with the aim of improving the operative equipment of the educator will be dealt with.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of general psychology and clinical fundamentals of impairment.

Disability Assessment highlighted by the new classification criteria ICF-WHO
The ICF in relation to the other classification systems. Codes reading exercise.
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Evolution of paradigms on disability from a historical perspective, from antiquity up to the 2006 Convention
Summary around the main types of alteration of the structures and bodily functions.
Psychological constants in the different manifestations of disability.
From the concept of integration to that of inclusion and accessibility.
Family, disability and inclusion.
Special educational needs: providences, professionals and tools.
The Educator of the school, and in relationships with other professionals.
The relationship of care according to the dialectical model of the dementia disease of Tom Kitwood.
Strategies to effective communication in the relationship with the person in difficult situation: definition of a short operating Decalogue.
The incidence of communicational variables in the management of the educational relationship and help.
The grammar of the intervention in the educational relationship.
Languages and special communication tools.
Braille, Malossi, E-tran: practical exercises.
The theoretical bases of the Augmentative Alternative Communication and use of communication boards.
Exercises using specific software for A.A.C.
Identification of the implementation process of a video moments: recipients, purposes, duration, narrative modes, shooting contexts, roles, synchronization, privacy, Web publishing.
The legal institution of “Support Administrator”: aspects involving the educator in his profession
The game as a tool of the educator.
Practical exercises of inclusive cooperative game.

Learning assessment procedures

ORAL EXAM
The oral exam is designed to assess the quality of learning and also take on a formative value: the dialogic position, in fact, is well suited to the comparison of the quality of personal elaboration of the learned content and a possible correction of inaccuracies in contradiction with the Professor.
TIME OF COLLOQUIUM: 20/25 minutes
NUMBER OF QUESTIONS: The number of questions may vary from a minimum of four to a maximum of eight, depending on the accuracy and completeness of the response.
TIME FOR THE ANSWERS: The average time available for the replies will be from 3 to 5 minutes.
EVALUATION CRITERIA OF THE ANSWER: There will be some subject of evaluation: conceptual precision, the ability to synthesize, clarity and exhibition modes, personal computing, critical evaluation of the content.
