Training objectives

MODULE I
Provide the tools needed to understand and apply the current radiation protection regulations, with particular reference to work situations in which future professional educators should work in areas where Radiodiagnostics, Nuclear Medicine or Radiotherapy facilities are active.
MODULE II
This module aims at fostering transversal competences and communicative skills in English (levels B1 and B2) in informal and professional contexts. At the end of the course, students are expected to have achieved the following learning objectives (Dublin Descriptors): communication skills and transversal competences.
MODULE III
INFORMATIC SKILLS
Acquiring the skills provided by the modules “moduli Computer Essentials”, “Online Essentials” and “Spreadsheet of the European Computer licence. In particular:
acquiring competence in using the normal functions of a personal computer.
Web browsing and communication: acquiring knowledge about web browsing and online security concepts on Internet. Ability to use electronic mail (e-mail) and other service for sharing documents (cloud).
Understand the concept of spreadsheets and know how to use the spreadsheet program to produce accurate results.

Prerequisites

Possess competence in using the common functions of a personal computer.
For MOD: 2
At A2 level a learner “can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.”

Course programme

MODULE I
Definition of radioprotection. Notes on radiation with particular reference to ionizing radiation. Units of measurement in radiation protection. Notes on the x-ray equipment and on major radionuclides used in the healthcare sector. Mechanisms of biological radiation damage. Legislative elements on the classification of workers and environments and radiation protection standards in Radiodiagnostics and Nuclear Medicine. Mentions on the risks and regulations related to the use of magnetic resonance imaging.
MODULE II
Lectures, speaking, listening tasks, group work, role plays, team debates, class discussions, and oral presentations (prof. Coppola); reading-comprehension and close reading tasks
In order to attend classes, students should possess the minimum level of competence in English, read the papers and watch the videos/movies.
For the final exam, students should practice their linguistic skills, study the texts and videos indicated by the teachers, and be able to trace connections.

Didactic methods

Lectures and laboratory activities (interviews, problem-solving activities, simulations, listening and storytelling, presentation and discussion).

Learning assessment procedures

MODULE I
Written exam with multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions
MODULE II
Individual or pair oral presentation (role play, case study, debate, or lecture) on a chosen topic (approx. 10 min.), and discussion (2/3 questions). The student’s oral presentation must be linked to at least one of the topics analysed in Carla Locatelli’s lessons.
Evaluation criteria: organization, coherence, autonomy, original and critical judgement, clear and non-ambiguous communication; ability to trace connections.
MODULE III: practical test (1hour – 30 points)
Use of computer for managing files and for prints (5 points)
Browsing Internet and managing of email messages (5 points)
Sharing docs in Cloud of the university (5 points)
Exercise on spreadsheet (15 points)
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
