PSYCHONEUROENDOCRINOLOGY
The course has the main objective of treating the basics of psychoneuroendocrinology , the stress system and the effects of the main hormones on the nervous system , the psyche and the human behavior in health and disease.
The main acquired knowledge will be:
•the basics of neuroendocrinology;
•the physiology and pathophysiology of stress axis;
•the main endocrine disorders related to the introduction of food , foraging behavior and mental ill health.
The basic acquired abilities will be:
•know and understand the basics of psychoneuroendocrinology;
•know and understand the stress system;
•know and understand the effects of the main hormones on the nervous system , the psyche and the human behavior in health and disease.
•know and interpret the main endocrine abnormalities related to obesity and eating disorders.

GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY
The course includes 36 hours of lectures.
Psychological sciences: introductory definition and hystorical-phylosophical background methods of psychological research.
Self and Food. Body image and Communication techniques with patients.
Group psychology and psychological development with regard to psychological crisis. Psychotherapy (brief introduction). Psychology of decision and persuasion.
Emotional crisis. Mental disorders classification according with DSM-IV. Generalities on theories and techniques in psychotherapy with special regard to Eating Behaviour Disorders.

The course includes 12 hours of lectures and interactive teaching:
•anatomy and physiology of the major endocrine axes;
•regulation and function of the hypothalamic-pituitary unit;
•relationship between the central nervous system / peripheral;
•the stress system;
•endocrine regulation of feeding behavior;
•neuroendocrine alterations in the course of eating disorders;
•psychiatric disorders and of feeding behavior in the tumors of the pituitary region of the midbrain;
•alterations of the GH-IGF-1 in the course of psychiatric disorders;
•gonadal axis in obesity and thinness.

APPLIED DIETETICS
The course includes 12 hours of lectures.
Diagnosis of eating behavior: the history of weight and abnormal behavior.
Setting up a project of nutritional rehabilitation in different DCA (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge eating disorder).
Nutritional rehabilitation with diary or eating pattern. Verification of treatment motivation. Prevention of eating disorders.
Nutritional rehabilitation of severe anorexia (BMI <15).

Learning assessment procedures

GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY:
The exam is oral and includes the discussion of two topics of the module, in which we evaluate the properties of language and learning of theoretical and clinical skills. Average time 20 minutes. To pass this test it is required to get at least 18 points out of 30.
PHARMACOLOGICAL TREATMENT OF EATING DISORDERS:
Written test: multiple choice test made up of 31 questions, 1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for each wrong or absent answer. The test is passed with 18.
PSYCHONEUROENDOCRINOLOGY:
The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the learning objectives previously described have been acquired, by an oral test lasting 20 minutes with 2-3 questions, that will evaluate the acquired knowledge. In addition, the test will evaluate the capacity of connecting the acquired notions. To pass this test it is required to get at least 18 points out of 30.
PSYCHOLOGY AND PSYCHOTHERAPY OF DISORDERS OF EATING BEHAVIOR
An oral exam, 15-30 minutes lasts, which will not be assessed as the ability of exposing one or more topics covered in class, because the ability and demonstration of being able to connect and compare different aspects of the programme. The number of questions cannot be defined but depends on the preparation and exposure that students demonstrate during the examination. To pass this test it is required to get at least 18 points out of 30.
APPLIED DIETETICS:
The exam consists of an oral discussion, 15-30 minutes lasts, which will not be assessed as the ability of exposing one or more topics covered in class, because the ability and demonstration of being able to connect and compare different aspects of the programme. The number of questions depends on the preparation and exposure that students demonstrate during the examination. To pass this test it is required to get at least 18 points out of 30.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
