Training objectives
- a) Knowledge on discipline
• Learn the fundamentals of the sociological approach to health and well-being;
• Know the main sociological orientations in the field of health and care, with particular attention to the development of the discipline in Italy;
• Know the debate on definitions of health;
• Deepen the field of organizational and professional care;
• Deepen the issues of self-care, health promotion and education to care;
• Deepen the field of health communication and its social implications.
a) Know how and capabilities
• Develop skills on methods of education and self-education to health;
• Develop skills on health promotion and communication processes;
• Develop skills on the professionalization process in the field of educational, social and health care.
b) Soft skills
• Develop a personal point of view and argued on some relevant issues in the field of sociology of health;
• Develop analytical skills and exposure on social and health-specific issues;
• Develop ability to use contemporary sociological research in the field of sociology of health;
• Develop capacity to draw up a report on a practical experience. Prerequisites
- Knowledge of the main sociological theories and methodologies.
Course programme
- • Basic knowledge of the main theories and sociological analysis related to the sociology of health;
• Knowledge of the development of the discipline in Italy (main places, authors and application fields);
• Knowledge of the debate on the definition of health;
• Practices, relationships, professions and organizations of care;
• The issue of health promotion and self-care education;
• The health communication: fields and applications.
• Media and health: changes in self-care and relationships of care. Didactic methods
- Conventional (lectures, external exercises and group works); seminars and exercises will be organized whose participation will be evaluated for the purpose of final evaluation; the teacher makes available on the website of the course the learning materials and transparencies used during the course. The course is available in streaming and FAD.
Learning assessment procedures
- Written examination: 3 open questions on the contents and learning objectives of the course (about 2 pages long each) to carry out in 2 hours. Judging criteria responses are those of the accuracy, adequacy or completeness of the displayed content. The results of the exercises (aimed at developing the skills of type b and c) will be taken into account in determining the outcome of the final exam.
