Training objectives

By the end of the course students will:

• know the new childhood sociology and the methodological
issues concerning the well-being concept’s measurement,
• adopt the basic tools needed for a sociological reading of
childhood well-being, with particular attention to the age
group between 0 and 3 years,
• be able to implement sociological models to understand
the complex relationship between early childhood and
family-territory,
• know the problems involved in the design and
management of nursery schools and early childhood
education services.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of basic theoretical and methodological approaches of general sociology and general pedagogy is desirable, in order to facilitate the learning process

GENERAL SECTION

• The childhood sociological study
• The Convention on the Rights of the Child
• The concept of well-being
• The measurement of well-being in early childhood
• Inequalities in early childhood
• Intervention for children and families in vulnerable
situations

SPECIAL SECTION

• Nursery schools and early childhood educational services.
The Emilia Romagna case
• Special Educational Needs and early childhood

Didactic methods

For the face to face lessons, The use of the dialogued frontal lesson is foreseen
During the latter, students will be directly involved in conducting lessons through personal knowledges / experiences in relation to the topics concerned.
Multimedia work-tools will be used in order to display documents, papers and videos.Workgroup will take place

Learning assessment procedures

Learning test will consist of an oral exam for each student. The written test with open questions will be chosen just in case of many registered students for the exam.
Interview will focus on checking knowledge level and understanding of course contents, besides the capability of interpretation and critical argumentation, according to reference text-books for attending students and non-attending students
