Training objectives

Knowledge and understanding: Knowing the theoretical and methodological frameworks of teaching and special education for children 0-3 years;

Applying knowledge and understanding: Knowing the most effective educational and teaching methods for inclusion in nurseries and childcare services;

Making judgements: Reaching a reflection and critical skills on inclusive educational an inclusive design, based on scientific information;

Communication skills: knowing how to express and share in a group the principles of inclusion of children with particular frailties in common educational contexts;

Learning skills: be able to orient oneself in the epistemological aspects on inclusion in order to design educational and teaching inclusive programs for infancy 0-3 years.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in psychopedagogical and didactic fields.

Course programme

The course is aimed to the acquisition of the theoretical-epistemological framework of teaching and special education in in early childhood, with reference to national and international principles and policies for the inclusion of children with frailty and disabilities in educational contexts. Theoretical and methodological applications about the current special-pedagogical debate will be presented. The following topics will be addressed:

- Pedagogical welfare in early childhood and the rights of children with disabilities
- The WHO inclusive ICF model
- The quality of inclusion in early childcare services and in the integrated system 0-6 years
- The family and the encounter with disability
- Support for parenting and an educational alliance with families in vulnerable conditions
- Design and care practices in nurseries
- Towards the prevention of learning difficulties

Didactic methods

Frontal teaching for the theoretical aspects; laboratory teaching with readings, discussions, simulations of professional situations, case studies and exercises on educational and didactic planning.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam will be in written form with multiple choice questions and open questions. The multiple choice questions will be aimed at verifying knowledge relating to the theoretical and methodological aspects of the discipline. The open questions will be aimed at verifying the reflection towards the acquisition of skills and abilities within the discipline. The property of the specific lexicon of the discipline, the argumentative competence and the illustrative efficacy will be evaluation criteria.
