Knowing and knowing how to interpret the transformations of the art system in the broader framework of the overall social change.

Course programme

The first part of the module will cover general topics. Following the theme of the relationship between language, communication, art and society as a guiding thread, without neglecting the nature and history of art, the course intends to place itself within a tradition of socio-linguistic investigation.

The second part of the course will be aimed at understanding the artistic and cultural processes in its various aspects, such as:
-Understanding approaches to museum care
-The bases of historical and conceptual analysis and interpretation
-Understanding the role played by historians, curators and collectors
-Develop critical thinking and analytical skills
-To become aware of how things that seem to belong to different disciplines can actually "talk" to each other
-Experience that looking closely at even a single object can push academic and disciplinary boundaries
Analysis of contemporary art as a 'critical' and self-reflective place of post-modernity. Through the images of the works, the way in which some contemporary artists have elaborated some crucial themes of post-modernity in particular will be analyzed:
The public space between the elaborations of memory, iconoclasm and damnatio memoriae.
