Following the spread of new media, the perspectives and tools with which traditional media have been analyzed and interpreted change. The aim is to provide students with the basic skills for analysis and evaluation and New Media through an approach that is both theoretical and applied at the same time.
The peculiar characteristics of the Web as a new space / environment of the human relationship will be illustrated
The course will highlight the opportunities and modalities as linguistic, technological and social devices, while at the same time social risks and criticalities will also be underlined with a specific reference to the individual and social consequences of the new forms of abuse perpetrated through social networks.

Prerequisites

There is no specific prerequisite

Course programme

The course will open with a detailed analysis of the evolution of new media highlighting the relationships within the international socio-cultural context. Later, instead, the technological and communicative characteristics of the new media will be analyzed, comparing them with traditional media. A corpus of examples will then be analyzed to satisfy the two pathways of study related to the subject. In this regard we will try to adopt an interpretative method that can identify the contents and narrative dynamics that have changed profoundly with the advent of these new active two-way communication vehicles. In particular, the concepts of experience, participation, training, information and entertainment will be highlighted.

Didactic methods

The course will consist of lectures with examples of analysis, illustration and listening to visual and audiovisual examples. The applicative nature of the course strongly suggests its frequency. At the end of the course a power point will be distributed with the materials used in the lesson. For the oral exam, attending students will have the two mandatory texts, while non-attending students, in addition to the two mandatory texts, will have a text to choose from the recommended reading in the bibliography.
