The main knowledge gained by the students will be the following: basic principles for Internet security, design of networking, design of security strategy on the networks, analysis of data fluxes in the networks.
At the end of the course the students will be able to design and implement security structures in the network.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of the communication networks.

Course programme

Internet, IPv4 e IPv6, Unicast, Multicast, Broadcast and Anycast.
Security issues.
Firewall with their implementation and setup.
Iptables and implementation in actual scenarios.
Protocol analyzer, protocol analyzer building with RFC implementation.
Flux control mechanisms.
Flux control policy implementation with control of available bandwidth.
BGP and OSPF.
Intranet and internet networking.
Substitution cipher and relative standards, implementation and attack.
Feistel chiper, hash system and standards, implementation and attack.
Massey Omura mechanism and standards, implementation.

RSA implementation and attack.

Didactic methods

Lectures on the theory immediately followed by experiments to test and measure.

Learning assessment procedures

The proposed experimental activities and the examination are suitably organized to check the achievement of the learning objectives in terms of knowledge and abilities as outlined above.

For this check, the realization of 8 experiments proposed by the tutor is requested, with related thesis, check of functionalities and final assessment. An oral discussion on security concepts and contribution provided in the proposed experiments concludes the examination. If requested, English can be used for the oral discussion.

Passing the final exam is the proof that knowledge and abilities outlined in the training objectives of the course have been achieved.
