- Introduction: renewable and conventional energy sources and conversion technologies, technologies for electric and thermal energy distribution and storage, the electricity transmission grid; sustainability (environmental, economic, social and technological) - 4 hours
Energy markets and incentives: description and mechanisms of energy markets and, in particular, of the Italian electricity market; the incentives for the production of energy from renewable sources. - 4 hours
Biomass and biofuels: an introduction, processes for converting biomass into biofuels (thermochemical methods, biochemical methods, mechanical methods), biomasses for energy, energy systems and their adaptation to biofuels. - 12 hours
The wind power: the distribution of the wind and the anemometry, the Betz limit, wind turbine performances. - 8 hours
The solar source: irradiance distribution, thermodynamic and photovoltaic systems. - 10 hours
The geothermal source. - 2 hours
The hydroelectric systems, waves and tides. - 6 hours Didactic methods
- Frontal lectures.
Learning assessment procedures
- Written exam (2 exercises and 2 open questions).
The exam is passed if it is done properly at least one of the two exercises and if both questions are sufficient. Reference texts
