Training objectives

The course of Earthworks Buildings provides the necessary tools to acquire and elaborate the theories which the course itself is based on and illustrates the applicative techniques and new building technologies. Moreover the course provides the necessary elements for the planning of Earthworks on static and seismic conditions, referring to the in force regulations and to the eurocodes, in addition to the regulations and the most up-to-date recommendations quoted by the national in force regulations themselves.

Prerequisites

The course of Earthworks Buildings has, as preparatory landmark for the best and most in-depth learning of theories and applicative techniques, the courses of Building Science, Hydraulics, Geotechnics.

Course programme

1.Classification and features of Earthworks.
2.Classification and features of earths related to the application possibilities.
3.Quotes of Geotechnics.
4.Theory of Compaction.
5.Street, railway and structural embankments.
6.Land hydraulics and filtration.
7.Earth dam and embankment.
8.Controlled landfill, urban solid waste.
9.Diagnostics of existing Earthworks.
10.Monitoring and survey techniques.
11.Rehabilitation and stabilization techniques of earthworks.
12.Theory and technique of mechanical stabilized earth: project, implementation, test.
13.Landmark technical laws and regulations.

Didactic methods

The course is made up of frontal lessons and practice exercises in classroom.

Learning assessment procedures

Learning is rated through an oral exam during which, in addition to theoretical questions on Geotechnics principles applied to Earthworks technique, it is rated the skill of elaboration of acquired information, through a practice exercise.
