Training objectives

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 23151 - CHIMICA ANALITICA
------------------------------------------------------------
To acquire the basic knowledge of analytical chemistry, with particular attention to chemical equilibria and volumetric analysis. To learn the operating principles of the main analytical instrumentation of a chemical laboratory and their applications. To acquire the basic notions of qualitative and quantitative analysis and know how to present and discuss on a statistical basis the experimental results.

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 45828 - ANALISI QUANTITATIVA DEL FARMACO
------------------------------------------------------------
QUANTITATIVE DRUG ANALYSIS
The course has the aim to exercise the Student to perform the quantitative determinations, according to the law, on compounds reported in the italian and european pharmacopeia (XII Edition). One apply, to the execution of these determinations, analytical methods by theoretical principles - with the chemistry and the stoichiometry - and the practical applications. Volumetric and strumental methods are employed.

Prerequisites

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 23151 - CHIMICA ANALITICA
------------------------------------------------------------
Basic knowledge of physics and mathematics, in particular first- and second-degree equations, properties of logarithms, exponential notation, reading and discussing an xy scatter plot. Use of a pocket scientific calculator. Knowledge of the most common units of measurement. Good knowledge of general chemistry. In order to take the exam of the integrated course, the student must have taken the exams of General and Inorganic Chemistry and Mathematics and Computer Science + Physics.

QUANTITATIVE DRUGS ANALYSIS
Lectures (16 h) and practical work in the laboratory (48 h). During the lectures, general principles of analytic methods and instructions for the practical work are explained through oral exposition with blackboard support . In particular:
(1 h) general introduction to the course: textbook, organization of the work in the laboratory, final evaluation
(2 h) generality of volumetric titrations
(4 h) Aqueous and not aqueous acidi-base titrations
(4 h) Oxido-reductive titrations
(1 h) Complessometric titrations
(4 h) Instrumental methods: potenziometry, spettroscopy UV-Vis, HPLC
The part in the laboratory consists in different single seat analysis illustrated during the lectures. The practical exercises have a span of 4h a day. 18 h dedicated to aqueous and not aqueous acid -base analysis; 16 h oxide-reductive analysis; 4 h complessometric analysis. The instrumental methods are applied with a support of a technician. 4 h dedicated to potenziometric analysis, 4h to UV-Vis spettrophotometric analysis and 2h to HPLC.

Learning assessment procedures

The examination consists in a written and oral tests, aimed to assess and measure a test-taker's knowledge, skill, and aptitude towards the whole content of the two teaching units.
The written part consists in three stoichiometry exercices for Analytical Chemistry unit, and an oral discussion about the laboratory work.
The final score accounts of the partial evaluation of the written and oral tests and of the quality of the practical part.
