Identity provider

An Identity Provider (IdP) stores personal information about users, verifies their identity through an authentication process, and releases this information when necessary.

The University of Ferrara's Identity Provider is dedicated to its students, faculty, and administrative staff and is used when accessing a web service (or "Service Provider") that requires user identification.

You see it when you access your email inbox, your private area student, administrative applications, etc. After authentication, the Identity Provider transmits the personal information strictly necessary for the service to function (for example, the user's first and last name or tax code).

The same Identity Provider is used when you wish to use your UniFe credentials to access services provided by other organizations or universities belonging to the "IDEM" or "eduGain" federation.
